US Airplay Discussion

Even in the US, it has been in the top40 on Spotify for like half a year now. It is an anomaly. Most "hits" get their peak in streams within a 2-3 month period and that allows them to peak higher. In her case, she's had 6 months to accumulate decent streams. Her total stream numbers in the US are already HIGHER than a lot of songs that you consider "hits" because they peaked higher or because they peaked on radio and streams at the same time.

Because for 6 months the song has been gaining radio support, being promoted, and still spammed on streaming playlists. :rip: Most artists don't push 1 single this long.

It never truly had a period where it took off strongly, so the fact it got to #1 is a huge accomplishment in itself. A long reign is pushing it.

Worldwide numbers have nothing to do with US Airplay.

The song is doing absolutely terrible on sales and streams currently. If Taylor was #1 on Pop radio, while currently #45 on iTunes and #53 on Spotify I'm sure you'd have paragraphs and essays ready on how it was the biggest payola scheme of all-time.

US Radio while paying attention to callouts also notes a song's success in sales/streams when supporting it. It's doing absolutely bad currently so I can't see a 7 week reign in sight. That would be absolutely ridiculous.

You should know better, iHype. The reason why is #45 on iTunes is because of all the songs that were performed at the Grammys :toofunny2: She was top 30 before all the influx of performed songs. Also, if she discounted again, the song would easily shoot up again to the top 10/15 again. And let's not act like the song didn't stay in the top 30 on Spotify for literally MONTHS :dies: By now, the song is obviously worned out on all of its other metrics.

Dua is a pretty much unknown artist, who has never even performed this song in the US :rip: The fact that you are comparing her to one of the biggest female stars in the US is just :rip: The SNL performance might very well give the song a second wind in Sales and Streaming, we'll just have to wait and see.

New Rules even made it to no11 on the daily US Spotify chart a while ago and spent a decent amout of time in the teens and 20s at a time when airplay was very low. It would have peaked very high on streaming if they had both peaked at the same time.

It's just that in the US she is an unknown girl from Europe with a very international, foreign, tropical house sound that is not popular at all on US radio. That's what it took her 6 months to reach no1.

As I said before, its total number of US streams is ahead of many songs that you consider "hits" because they peaked higher on spotify or because their radio peak happened at the same time with their streaming peak.

More than 50% of NR'S hot 100 points have been from airplay in recent weeks. Consumption wise the song has never been top ten. It's a radio fueled hit and is doing very poorly in streams. It's crazy how biased people can be on atrl. Even if you like Dua these are the facts

Are you aware that NR peaked at #11 on Spotify and #10 on Youtube in the US? :rip: It has sold 400k in pure sales and has better peaks in Streaming Songs and Digital Sales than far more radio fueled songs like "Scars To Your Beautiful" and "Lights Down Low". Radio is literally LATE with its support. Had it had the same amount of audience when it peaked in sales and streaming, you wouldn't be saying the same. Not to mention that the girl has yet to perform the song in America. She has a SNL performance coming in a few days, if she discounts again, she can get a new peak in Digital Sales.

Anyways, "New Rules" is the true definition of an organic and sleeper hit.

Females 18-34, the target audience of pop radio, seem to love it. Here are the the songs that test the best right now with females 18-34. Her singles along with New Rules by Dua Lipa are slaying. Very loved by the public. I would be surprised if it doesn't peak in the Top5 on pop radio eventually. This is just a national sample though. What matters is the research individual stations and radio companies do in their markets. Those are private surveys that we don't have access to. But what we have access to is a pretty good indication that her songs are very liked. At the beginning of February we are gonna start getting the weekly national sample of call out scores provided for free by Mediabase too. They took a break during the xmas holiday and January.

Wow thank you for the information! I definitly think it's going to be another Pop #1 for her.

New Rules :deadbanana: I really have no idea what's going to challenge it. Maybe Finesse or Him & I?

It's clearly "payola"/her label using all their radio resources & personnel to push this. The fact it isn't even top 10 on rhythmic proves it

sure New Rules is super radio/payola-fueled at this point but I don't rly see the issue. she wasn't able to book any performances or promo in the US so this was a good exchange in order to promote the song

With Dua Lipa, whose hit is only doing well on radio, ppl refuse to say it has a lot to do with an “inorganic push” (let’s put it this way), but with Camila (whose Havana has been top 2 on Spotify ww for a long ass time and top 5/10 on US Spotify and YouTube forever) they say it’s payola. ATRL is a funny place lol

Who said Havana was payola? It was a pure smash all over the world. The term payola was only used for Look What You Made Me Do in the last few months and it was obvious why.

Dua smashed hard on radio, pure sales and streaming all around the world. The video has 1 bIllion views for God's shake and it's been in the top10 on worldwide Spotify for half a year almost. Who else slays like that for 6 months non stop? Only monster songs.

US radio is just months late. It's not her fault they were not playing her when she was at no11 on US Spotify and top10 on youtube. If anything, it shows her streaming power that she hit those peaks with very little airplay. Back in the fall, most of her hot100 points were coming from Spotify and YouTube, not radio.

Oh please. The only ones who thought Havana was a payola hit were Harmonizers :rip:
