Radio IS still the most consumed method regardless of “payola,” and I don’t know why people bring up the idea of good, bad, or what’s ethical when discussing it. As long as Billboard is measuring popularity, something being good/bad/influenced has nothing to do with the chart. What’s most heard/listened to is still most heard/listened to. That being said, radio is an entirely different beast than CDs, and radio outlasting every form of physical ownership does nothing to support the idea that CDs will “come back.”

I believe people bring up the ethics of payola because it’s illegal right??

None of these songs broke the record for the biggest freefall of all time so I wouldn't get that brave

They didn't freefall because all their points were coming from radio.

What?

People are talking about its freefall both on POP airplay and Overall airplay. In both instances it broke all time records for biggest drop in history. Both on a daily and weekly basis.

"How Long" has stalled at #21 the last three weeks?

I'm genuinely shocked at MAX's "Lights Down Low" performance. Top 30 now?! A true zombie single.

I couldn’t agree more with your radio comments, and I’ve said so myself several times. Consumption is consumption.

lets be clear about one thing though,  I NEVER said anything about CDs, vinyl or physical sales.  I specifically stated that it would be a NEW form of sales.

Fair enough.

sustained paying radio to play a song that consumers don't want to buy or stream, whew the power.

poor songs that peak #1 sales and #1 streaming just can't relate.

Sales will come back in some form someday. People will wake up and realize they are spending all this money to stream stuff and don’t actually have anything to show for it.

gotta have yer own stuff after the EMP goes off :)

people thought radio was dead dead many times, and it’s still the most consumed  method of soncumption for the charts.  So while sales impact on the charts are at a low point, I’m unconvinced the long term future is the demise of sales.  People like to own stuff.

I’ve never heard of people thinking radio is dead. As for people liking to own stuff, that couldn’t be any less true for music right now and in the past few years. People enjoy the convinenece of streaming, clearly. Even theaters and TV are being effected by that as consumers flock to services and easy access to everything. It saves money too, so don’t see the “spending all this money” part. $360 a year for Spotify or just 20 albums for the same price. Gift cards worth year of streaming. Movie Pass is $10/month to see a free movie a day in cinema? Phone companies beginning to include Hulu/Spotify/Netflix, etc. in plans for free so it won’t overcharge you for streaming data.

Something extreme will have to happen to kill this progress and even if that does happen, it won’t revert back to sales. We saw sales hit bottom before digital singles came along and even that was due to cheaper options (99 cent songs). What would you propose happens for consumers to go back to spending tons of money again on music at this point? Cause you’re always bringing up these arguments.. just never with your own side of things. Just saying nonsensical things.

So tired of you screaming PAYOLA about everything.

Why don't you focus on this and leave organic no1 smashes alone?

POP:
15 -2 TAYLOR SWIFT End Game f/Ed Sheeran/Future

-490 Spins
-470 Bullet
-2.370 Audience

I'm not the one who screams payola every day about the same person over and over and over again due to a singular fixation. but thanks.

...anyway I wonder how high true organic hit Meant to Be will peak.

The stability when everyone else is decreasing. :toofunny2:

Was kinda expecting a higher debut for Look Alive, but this is still good.
