I love this website in all its messiness, there is so much music I've discovered on here, so many kiis I've had reading things, so many interesting corners of music and pop culture I've discovered thanks to ATRL. And I find it to be a really fun, positive community that is also very LGBT friendly (I'm ghey, obviously). And while I've been posting I've also been carrying a secret... I am a user of this website, but now there is a chance I will one day get a thread made about my new music I've been a songwriter for the indie pop scene in Vancouver BC for a while (I moved here from Peru when I was 18), and recently through an insane series of events I ended up getting an offer for a record deal from a local label. This label is 604 Records, owned by Chad Kroeger of Nickelback. This is the label that put together "Call Me Maybe". There are literally Diamond plaques on the wall of the label with Carly's face on it, it's surreal. They're distributed by Warner. They have COIN. Like I was shook the first time they invited me to their building, there's all these multi-Platinum plaques for Nickelback, Carly, Marianas Trench (Canadian icons for those who know), Coleman Hell and others. People talking about meeting Justin Bieber and Harry Styles like it's the most casual thing in the world So that happened. I had to get an (expensive ass) lawyer. It was a whole thing. I was so nervous it would fall through multiple times, like the tension was unbearable; this was all in my mind though because they couldn't have been lovelier and more supportive, it's more me being such a pessimist and not believing this could be happening to me. Like, I was struggling and hustling in the music scene for years. Doing songwriting workshops, singing back up, getting absolutely nowhere. So it was insane and surreal that they loved my self-produced demos so much that they wanted to fund a whole album and give a full record deal without ever having released music of my own And tonight the first single from my first album has finally been released. We put out a dark take on a Christmas song that they asked me to do late last year, but now they've finally confirmed the whole album is a go and this is the first single It's the most exciting day of my life in a way. I feel like Mariah in her memoir when she gets signed and can finally breathe a sigh of relief because her musical life is about to begin. As a proud and openly gay man the one thing I really would like with my music career, if I'm going to be given a platform and support and all that being signed to a big indie label means, is that I want to connect with my LGBT community. I want to get played in the clubs. I would honestly die happy if I ever see a drag queen or drag king do one of my songs. And I'm going to be pushing for gay acceptance/rights in my videos and music HARD. I'm going to use that record label coin to make some subversive gay art. The next video will be a gay themed video for a bop that's coming. I'm going to truly try to be the gay pop star that I never had growing up. This community that is my home means the world to me. So I'd rather start nowhere else than here, the internet's queer capital of pop music to start spreading the word about my music. So without further ado I would like to share my first (proper) single with you: "Great Escape" - a synth-pop bop about yearning to get out no matter what. I hope you like it. Not this nonsense again. Katy's career (and Xtina's for that matter) declined because of bad music and long breaks. The "hate train" began in stan circles and eventually crossed over into clickbait media, exacerbated by Katy's own erratic behavior on SNL. It's that simple. There was no top-down conspiracy to end Katy Perry's career. If anything, there was a top-down effort to make the Witness singles pop. Are we forgetting the Spotify deal or the millions they spent in marketing? Also, Tom Breihan NEVER said P4K conspired against Katy. He said they weren't interested in covering her music, which is elitist, but hardly surprising coming from an indie publication in the early-10s.

Of course the conservative notion that natural population decline is bad manages to grab former allies and turn them into homophobic nutjobs. People, hetero or not, should be having less children. Why do you need 4 children? Why does anyone feel pressured to have children? Why is our definition of economic success for a country always tied to a stable or growing population? These are outdated and environmentally unsustainable philosophies that need to die.

The tour is 70% sold out and starts in June and they STILL pushing this dumb ass narrative. Whoever is paying them is paying them good! The more likely reason they rebranded the tour is because she simply doesn't have enough time to come up with new numbers for the show as she's literally filming a movie right now… There are PLENTY of tours that support flop albums that have done just fine. But whatever. Enjoy your little laughs and hehes or whatever about a tour that WILL be sold out at the end of the day.

Chromatica I is the least streamed track of its album, being a minute long interlude clocking in at 33 million. (Chromatica III isn't registered as having full streams because of its short length) Katy Perry's album Smile, which ATRL told me has more 500M+ songs than Chromatica, has 7 songs which haven't reached 30 million streams yet. That's more than half of the album doing less numbers than an interlude. So ATRL, why does Katy not manage to have anyone listen to the entirety of her album even though she's supposedly doing so well despite being perceived as a flop? Will the tides turn around for her next era and GP start remembering her #1s and care about her again, or do we have to keep getting reminded again and again that no amount of Tiktok fuelled hits and legacy chart toppers a decade ago can keep a career afloat, when people don't respect your output nor have an interest in you as an artist? I actually used to think like the "lesser of two evils" people in here so I can understand where you're coming from. I realised that if you want change, REAL change, you can't keep reinforcing the structure you feel trapped in, with continually voting for the "lesser of two evils". Voting third party is only seen as a "wasted vote" because of this mentality. Voting for who you would actually want in power is the ONLY way to be represented. And if none of the parties represent you, then don't vote until someone comes about who does. You can complain about "oh but the system" yet you're keeping the system in place by doing exactly what they want you to, voting based on fear of someone winning rather than voting for someone you believe will bring positive change.
