This is a country album by a 42-year old black woman and some folks in here still have the gall to distill this success to it containing 27 tracks (of which 24 count toward the streams) It ain't a trendy pop album by a white pop singer (I say this as a Swiftie). I'm sorry but this is a worldwide streaming record, Beyonce is absolutely savage for pulling these well-deserved numbers at her age in this genre. Just clap and keep it moving.36 points

You don't think an artist being able to hold people's attention for over an hour with 27 songs is impressive? Let alone a 42-year-old black woman who has been in the industry for nearly 3 decades? Such a nonsense take. It's embarrassing when people can't just give credit where it's due, regardless of whether you like the artist or not. These numbers are incredible.34 points

She didn't miss it. She just didn't want to do it like that. The lyrics are completely different, it's not a cover. Singing a song adoring the woman and the proceeding to kill her in the following track make zero sense. If they want Dolly's Jolene, it's available on all streaming platforms. There's also a beautiful cover done by Miley on YouTube.30 points

Not you always perched as usual trying to downplay this. 3 songs didn't count, so only 24 tracks contributed to this numbers. Sza's SOS had 23 tracks and did less. Longer albums don't save your streams if no one wants to stream it. Justin Timberlake's album is only a few minutes shorter than CC and he did 5.9m. Justin is Beyonce's peer, the fact she is outdoing her peers debut by 10x is very impressive.27 points

Another salty hater hiding behind Taylor because Beyonce has completely obliterated and left your true fave (Gaga) in the dust. Y'all were so certain Beyonce was gonna fall off and flop, only for her to continue being an A list artist with A list success27 points

No, Miley is a significantly better vocalist26 points

Absolutely massive. If there was ever even a smidge of doubt that she isn't THE defining artist of her generation, this all but solidifies that. She is truly a legend who's insanely long and consistent success is nearly unrivaled in music history26 points

I remember in 2003 when "Crazy in Love" and "Baby Boy" were smashing and she was just IT. I was stanning in elementary school watching on the music video channels in Peru. Then came "Check On It" (still my fav Beyonce song ddd) and 'B'Day' which I actually bought because I started getting an allowance and remains my fav Beyonce album. I remember being bewildered at the hate for the "Deja Vu" video. "Ring the Alarm" being so unexpected. "Irreplaceable" smashing and me trying to hit the high note from "Listen" in my room. IASF era where she showed superhuman displays of showmanship on stage, the first half designed to showcase vocals, the second to showcase dance moves. 4 in my last year of high school, I remember being shook at "1+1", it was like a Prince song. Self-titled and Lemonade during my university years, causing controversy and conversation. Renaissance in 2022, me partying to "Break My Soul" at gay clubs in Canada and the UK, a burst of joy after the dark Covid years. She's been there all along, delivering incredible music, videos and performances and giving us all joy without parallel. And she is still here, still challenging herself artistically, and winning on every level.20 points

What we're not going to do is try and drag Ariana's flawless album whilst celebrating Beyoncé's unbelievable achievement. Both albums have smashed and we love to see it! That said, the fact that Beyoncé has achieved this is ridiculous and regardless of whether you're a fan or not, deserves celebrating. She is a 42-year-old black woman who has been in this industry for over 27 years, who has lasted through so many iterations of the music industry and is not only competing with the newer artists but surpassing them. That is unprecedented and legendary. You don't need to be a fan to acknowledge that this woman is a legend and titan of the music industry.19 points

TUN was a high water mark that until now, only one woman had passed in the last five years. I think it's a bigger achievement than many people are acknowledging for Beyoncé to be the second woman to pass that mark and to do it with a country record rather than a "typical" Beyoncé record. This speaks to her status and building up her legacy and reaching younger demographics with Renaissance and its tour, but even more it speaks volumes about this album's incredible quality. It's good enough that it feels natural and right for this to cross the TUN threshold. It will be interesting to see the unfiltered numbers and how this holds for its first week.18 points

Inb4 the usual cowards come to say "she made points but worded them poorly!!1!!", as if it's ever okay to use a child in these kinds of petty arguments. Vile lady and even worse stans.18 points

When Sapphira did that sloppy cartwheel into a split and then said "I'm not worried, like at all. I'm annihilating this lip sync". The way I burst out laughing. She thought she ate. She didn't.18 points

Folklore was her Ray of Light, in the sense that it elevated her to a whole different level and revealed new aspects of her artistry to the GP. If we're specifically talking about ROL's sound (electronica, DnB, rave, ambient), she hasn't...17 points

Bey had the last laugh AGAIN. ATRL loves to bring up big career peaks to prove their fave is bigger but Bey has shown that being consistent and staying true to your artistry always pays off in the end. She is by far the defining artist of our generation. Always pushing herself that's why she's still here while her peers struggled later in their careers.15 points

Interestingly, Beyoncé's success doesn't take away from Ariana's. In the same way Taylor's doesn't take away from Beyoncé's. When Beyoncé debuted the only way to buy music was to go a shop and buy a CD (or a cassette). She has transitioned from the physical era, to the digital era and now the streaming era and is competing with popular contemporary artists. It's completely unheard of. Especially for a black woman in her 40s with a country inspired album15 points

A straight married woman in 2024 isn't begging another woman not to take her man. A straight cover would not have gone well for Beyonce and I truly believe people want that woman clowned. I find the discourse fascinating cause the GP spent the last year being so outraged over Ariana appearing to "win" as the other woman. Why can't Bey approach a very valid situation more realistically? Is it because she's seen as succesful/beautiful enough and they don't like her husband already? Well she dedicated an album to punishing him and he said she was leaving and he had to go to therapy to save his family.13 points
