Lets have a sequel with sandra bullock making this film called "The Blindsided"23 points

It's a better cover, but it doesn't save the music from being mostly boring.18 points

Jokes aside, she found a bar where they could play that night and people who were at the canceled show could go there. Too many people showed up, so they rotated and played like 6 songs for each group. She had another show planned at the Pier 17 in New York the next day, so she added an early show for anyone who had tickets for the cancelled show and played an almost full set (21 songs) and then at the later show the full set (26 songs). I can’t think of many artists who would have done all that for the fans. Huge respect for her!17 points

Peaks: Good Days: #9 (20 weeks) I Hate U: #7 (21 weeks) Shirt: #11 (23 weeks) Nobody Gets Me: #10 (17 weeks) Kill Bill: #1 (35 weeks*) Snooze: #10 (35 weeks*) The fact "Snooze" peaks at #10 in its 35th week in the streaming era is insane Rihanna's "Lift Me Up" blocking "Shirt" from top 1014 points

"Pop's middle class" is such a problematic statement like... whoever wrote this is a mess and indirectly insulted their middle class readers. Yikes. It just seems like such an unfortunate way to think about music consumption like it's a ranking system. These writers really suck all of the fun and pure joy out of music sometimes.14 points

A lot of these publications are to blame. They’ve basically spent the last decade venerating Taylor and Beyoncé while paying artists like Cupcakke, Charli, and Carly dust.14 points

Thats precisely what she addresses in the article tho But when it comes to Swift, I have never understood it. And as her fandom grows ever more deranged, as the media flocks to her side en masse, publishing breathless op-eds about how she is single handedly fending off the US recession with a tour that is predicted to fetch a record-busting $1.4 billion, or how her massing fans have caused literal ‘earthquakes’ at stadium venues (fact check: these tremors are a common occurrence with big stadium tours and sports games), I can’t help but think that this deification of Taylor Swift is neither healthy – nor deserved. To me, Taylor Swift is just fine. And there will be plenty more like her. But somehow the universe is in a collective trance, unable to admit it. If you read the New York Times this week, you will have seen a dance critic call Taylor’s moves ‘simple and unoriginal’, ‘stiff and awkward’, ‘imprecise and physically uncommitted’, yet still reach the conclusion that this parade of gawkiness is ‘powerful’, and ‘exceptionally effective’. I don't think I've ever showed you guys my Taylor tattoo and I'm kind of embarrassed to post it here cause some people might find it cringe but hey who cares. Beware: hairy leg ahead It's on my left leg and the guy that tattoed it on me made the drawing so it's unique13 points

The article is a kii and all, but… it’s kinda sad that these major news sources would NEVER write about a smaller artist unless it’s to make fun of them and devalue their art as “middle class”11 points

all this proves is Taylor Swift (much like any other songwriter) uses common idioms and phrases some delusional Swifties think she invented like why were "nineteen" and "Cheshire Cat" highlighted when one is a number and the other is literally from a book first published in 186511 points

Music critic, Kara Kennedy, mentions that other critics might be afraid to call out the reality due to Swifities vicionousness online. Believes Taylor to be basic and is puzzled by current success: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12397435/KARA-KENNEDY-OK-Im-ready-Swiftie-slap-Taylor-cringe-unoriginal-massively-overhyped-millions-cult-like-collective-trance-shake-off.html Thoughts?10 points

The most questionable thing about this article is the claim that there is significant online conversation and a devoted fanbase around Rita Ora.10 points

« Hi it’s Taylor, if Cruel Summer doesn’t go #1, I will cancel the 2nd US leg of the tour » Imagine9 points

This whole genre of conversation is tiresome. It always goes I like [X] artist so they had a big influence on music unlike [Y] artist I do not like. In reality, every artist that gets frequently talked about on this site has had an outsized influence on music and you just look silly trying to argue otherwise.9 points

I’d argue that it extended into the early/mid 2010s. Beyoncé is one of the hardest working entertainers/artists out there. She may have slowed her roll after she had children but no one can argue that she gives it 250%8 points

And of course most of the examples are women (and a bottom top). So pathetic. What a weird way to frame an otherwise interesting conversation about success. Not everything is for the masses and not everyone has the opportunity to be f+cking Taylor Swift. It's okay to be niche and that's something it enriches culture in general. The NYT should know better. So nasty.7 points

Her classics and especially Born This Way album sound timeless. I adore her work from TFM, BTW and ARTPOP, they’ll be fresh for me forever7 points

Are you kidding me?! Gabourey’s performance in Precious was devastating, beautiful, inspiring, and profound. She deserved an Oscar right alongside Monique that year. Wow. I forgot who Sandra won against that year. That’s just egregious. Precious is one of the most moving films I’ve ever watched. Really stays with you after.7 points

Take away Sandy's Oscar and give it to its rightful winner, Gabourey Sidibe7 points

You don’t have to, actually. I don’t have anything against it but it absolutely and will never be my scene. A lot of cishet people feel owed a coming out, even ones who think of themselves as progressive. It creates a very weird power imbalance and I try to keep it as brief and nonchalant in any scenario where I’ve had to come out.7 points

Are you 12 or just fully braindead? Trans women just like any other human are allowed to get drunk and have flaws. Sorry you just wanted to see her as a clown for your entertainment and not as a real person. It’s not out of this world for a former prostitute and repeatedly abused person to talk about sex the way she does.7 points

I’ve been having such a hard time listening to her other albums, Rennie lives rent free in my head. I was listening to 4 on a car ride and I couldn’t wait for it to finish because I wanted to play ITG asap I would’ve thought the excitement of new music would’ve died by now but I guess not. See when you make timeless music>>>7 points

Once again Swifties cannot argue anything outside of money and sells. She is and will remain the most overrated artist in this modern age as long as she continues to serve nursery level melodies, atrocious lyrics, flat and non existent vocal power, and stage presence of a karaoke singer. Really need to emphasize just how unskilled she is as a songwriter in particular though, it is laughable how weak of one she is and yet constantly acclaimed for it.7 points
