World Eater Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Finally catching up nnn; So glad to see Rina and Yaeji doing so well on everyone's lists Also thanks for reminding me that AnCo released not one but two EPs this year My favs from the song list are probably Pluto, Transmission, Sip O' Poison and This Year Also love basically everything from the pop songs list
Uncatena Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 really nice pop song choices, familiar with them
Glassmouth Posted December 12, 2017 Author Posted December 12, 2017 (edited) (#183 - #170) #183 PERFUME GENIUS ALAN Quote Mike Hadreas serve a really inconsistent but well produced record and one of the highlights of said record is Alan, a sweet track that makes me remember how good this man is creating ballads, this track sounds childlike and so fragile and it's one of the atmospheric numbers of No Shape #182 KENDRICK LAMAR LUST. Quote The first time I heard this song it was in some BIG ASS HQ SPEAKERS and let me tell you it was absolutely insane, the way the production and Kendrick spits every single word makes this a perfect slow rap jam #181 KIM PETRAS I DON'T WANT IT ALL Quote I'm not exactly sure how seriously I need to take Kim Petras, but one thing is for sure, she knows how to put on a great pop show, I Don't Want it All is infectious and synthy, absolute banger #180 BLONDE REDHEAD GOLDEN LIGHT Quote Golden Light is mysterious and nostalgic, Blonde Redhead takes some cues from the work made in Misery is a Butterfly with dramatic orchestras and a really lowkey but effective set of percussions that give the best final touch to this discography highlight #179 CHELSEA WOLFE TWIN FAWN Quote Chelsea is always able to move smoothly and confidently in her most dreamy and slow cuts and Twin Fawn is no exceptions, moving through guitars and, in my opinion, some brilliantly produced set of drums and percussions, wow, Chelsea and her beautiful doomed voice take me to her and hellish surreal world. #178 WIRE SHORT ELEVATED PERIOD Quote When I noticed that Wire released a new record I was immediatly excited and they lowkey delivered, Short Elevated Period though is one of the best efforts in the whole record, giving us a gritty and cool midtempo punk jam that also blends a more straightforward and pop-ish structure in an excellent way #177 DRAB MAJESTY NOT JUST A NAME Quote Not Just a Name sounds straight out of the 80s, (I actually at first was shocked to learn it was released this year), this song is exquisite, a new wave slowburning ballad, one of those perfect prom songs, yeah, the one everyone dances slowly as the neon lights shine above your head. #176 THE HORRORS HOLOGRAM Quote V's opener ''Hologram'' is epic, ****ing EPIC, the synths, the atmosphere, bitch the vocals, can we talk about the vocals? The Horrors are heading towards an exciting and more polished direction and I'm so here for it #175 Sufjan Stevens, James McAllister, Nico Muhly & Bryce Dessner EARTH Quote Earth is the longest track in 'Planetarium' and no wonder why, Earth is epic and beautiful, just like our planet, it feels bigger than any of these musicians and it feels bigger than any other song on the album, and even though the length could be considered a turn-off by a lot, for me this was an extremely satisfying experience #174 KIMBRA TOP OF THE WORLD Quote The return of our favorite weird kiwi is here! Kimbra serves a tribal and bonkers pop song that is also well produced and, most importantly, brings something new to Kimbra's table. #173 LANY SUPER FAR Quote Already in my best pop songs of the year, Super Far is, as I said before an elegant piece of pop music and also a really catchy one. #172 CLUB KURU YOU WANT IT BAD Quote Club Kuru's psychedelic ballad You Want It Bad sounds like the colors of a sad trip through LSD, it's melancholic and spacey without losing its pop structured touch that makes it even more listener friendly. #171 MOSES SUMNEY DOOMED Quote Doomed is a delicate track, it sounds like every single silence could break the trance but beautifully nothing does, Moses serves an amazing vocal performance in this dreamy and synth-driven ballad. A highlight. #170 ARIEL PINK ACTING Quote The moment I knew Dam-Funk was involved in this I was excited, Ariel Pink's voice moves smoothly in Dam-Funk's funky sounds without losing his own famously known weirdness. #200 - #184 Edited December 12, 2017 by Glassmouth
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 12, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 12, 2017 I don't Want it At All is good. I didn't expect it to but it has longevity!
ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 12, 2017 ATRL Moderator Posted December 12, 2017 Alan is still absolutely stunning Top of the World is a choice
Invisibility Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Bellyache, New Rules and Hard Times Green Light remains my least fav on Melodrama And never cared much for Boys Perched for the rest
Invisibility Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 The only way No Scalp should be labeled "inconsistent" is due to the same-y mood of the album after Choir compared to how vibrant and varied the first tracks are, or because Braid and Every Night exist. Otherwise a masterpiece But that's just my opinion

Wondy Lust Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 I don't get the Kim Petras hype seeing as I keep seeing her name here and there, she seems like a fill in LIZ.
Tom Vercetti Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Drab Majesty, Chelsea, Wire, these unique choices on a countdown is what I like to see. My favorite here is probably Lust.
MusicLoverDude Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Cut To The Feeling Hard Times, Green Light and New Rules are nice too! I Don't Want It At All
