Million Reasons actually has a chance to grow and stay on the chart unlike the previous two high reentries. MR has started making solid gains in airplay, and its streaming hasn't plummeted. Also, MR's sales are still strong. They tried to crossover the Chicks song to mainstream radio with virtually zero success (Country almost universally refused to play it, it peaked at #36 there). I'm not as sure about the Lopez/LL Cool J collab, but Wikipedia shows it peaked at #4. It's page also shows Control Myself was a much bigger Pop hit than Urban hit.

Control Myself is such an awesome song! I thought it would've peaked higher than #4 tbh, but it was kind of a rip-off of Missy Elliott/Ciara - Lose Control.

It's a problem that's more emphasized during the digital era.

in the distant past sales required physical copies in stores.  Sometimes hits ran out of copies and needed to wait weeks for new supply to sell.  Sometimes songs required weeks for word of mouth to get out that s new song was even out.

all this added up to mean that while songs took time to grow on radio, they also took time to grow in sales,  so the pair were more in sync.  Compared to today and instant news of new songs and always available digital purchases.  This has unfortunately caused our current staged system of rise and decline not in sync.

i miss the old method. I prefer a steady rise and fall of songs on the charts? But I do know nothing lasts forever, and even this current method will change, and I look forward to what comes next.

In the beginning, labels actually only released the digital songs when they were ready to promote them as singles. I would like to see labels go back to the one-at-a-time method not only for downloads, but for streaming as well (as Adele started with before eventually released the full 25 album). However, with the new BB 200 consumption rules, going back to the old one at a time method looks next to impossible.

Nelly also had several hits that performed better at Pop than Urban, though by 2005 that had a lot to do with BBs Urban Chart not including downloads and streaming until October 2012. Ride With Me did much better on Pop and Rhythmic than Urban. Over And Over with Tim McGraw peaked at #3 Hot 100, but only at #51 on Urban. However, remember BB didn't add download data to the Urban Chart until 2012. So Over And Over would've likely climbed much higher due to its Pop and Rhythmic support, as well as solid (for the time) downloads.

Will still be on the chart. Some songs can't relate :dies:

In two weeks time, Ms. Carey and Ms. Stefani will be equally relevant chart-wise. The difference is one been in the game for 26 years and the other...well...

And yes, I miss physical singles too. They were released one at a time, and as you said limited in quantity (some more than others, especially by the very late 1990s). However, with the renaissance of vinyl, and now even cassettes getting in on the action, maybe CD & Cassette Singles can make a comeback too lol.

9. Lady Gaga — The Fame: 51

Wasn't its 49th week in 2010? When did the 50th happen?

"Closer" going Top 5 again ? :lmao::lmao:

I like Closer, but should it get the Top 5 record, it'll be more like One Sweet Day getting the record vs. Uptown Funk or even Macarena. Macarena sold almost twice as many copies as OSD, and was #1 for 1996, OSD was #2 (despite the 14 vs 16 weeks at #1) Uptown Funk was huge at so many formats, streaming, and sales, and would've hit 17 weeks at #1 (and more weeks in every tier) had the See You Again surprise not catch everyone off guard. So should Closer get a 26th Top 5 week, it'll be due more to longevity luck and less competition at #5 than real power. And while I don't want Closer to break the record of a much bigger song, I won't be "pressed" should it do so. Closer and UF just don't match up in overall power.

Control Myself went 4-6-28-40-66-71-81-99 after its re-entry.  That's not too bad for that type of return,

the dixie chicks didn't fare quite as well.4-22-19-42.  It's important to remember though that the song quite old and was off the charts for over five months before its re-entry. It had 20 weeks on the charts before it re-entered.  So it's not surprising it fell fast after the return.

Yeah, and it's really too far back to try and figure out if airplay actually tried to catch up for Control Myself or not. The Dixie Chicks had no radio support, as their base format had abandoned them well before they won the Grammys. With BBs current rules (needing two consecutive weeks of growth after going recurrent), the DCs wouldn't have reentered anyway.

In August 2010

9. Lady Gaga, The Fame, 24,000. The album inches up from #10 to #9 in its 92nd week. This is its 50th week in the top 10. Six songs from the expanded version of the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Alejandro," which dips from #24 to #27..

Lady Gaga Top 5!!! So proud of you Mama Monster! <3 Every album has to have a Top 10 ;)

I wish Million Reasons, Chained to the Rhythm & Love on the Brain could all go Top 5 at the same time, like back in 2011! At least all will (hopefully) go Top 10!

Once it drops to 18 I don't see how it can go anywhere else tbh. It's been so overexposed and the GP is just whatever about it, that's just the truth. Good on her for getting it in the books tho with a top 5 entry :clap3:

Not these lazy Super Bowl + discount excuses. Coldplay performed a new discounted song at the Super Bowl last year. Why wasn't it as successful?

None of Coldplay's songs were discounted at the time, only their albums were.

Congratulation Gaga :clap3:

I cant believe it was peaked outside Top 50 before

It seems bigger than that obviously

It deserves its new peak :clap3:

So happy Gaga got another top 5 hit this era, let alone a top 10. Matching Applause's #4 peak. Legend. She also broke the curse of her second singles not peaking higher than her lead singles. :clap3:
