rl231 Posted September 26, 2017 Author Posted September 26, 2017 Welcome castaways to your 1st results show! Below will be the rates of each entry from all four judges. You were all rated on a scale of 1 to 10. Your average score will be combined into a tribe average which will determine which tribes are losing a member. After I reveal the scores, I will post the final results which will include how you ranked on your tribe, against all castaways, and finally the overall tribe rankings this round. The TWO lowest averaging tribes will be headed to Tribal Council where they will each vote off one member, who will become the first and second eliminated players of the season. With that said, here are the scores… Alcantra Marvin – This Is Me – Demi Lovato Element – 6 – A nostalgic entry tbh. I think this song skirts around the theme, but it definitely references a specific point of time where Demi is declaring her identity as a singer and is ready to start this chapter in her life. I don’t feel as if there have been any major obstacles though which have caused her to come BACK to life. She just never seemed to be alive in the first place, similar to her U.S. chart peaks. rl231 – 5 – I get where you were coming from by sending this song; however, the song isn't necessarily about a revitalization but more of a discovery of oneself IMO. Dylan – 6 – First up! This isn’t totally off–base. It’s just superrr average in every element I was looking for this round. Sonically, it’s empowering but in a very juvenile way. Lyrically, the song is almost there but not quite. I don’t think this song focuses enough on moving on from a rough period rather than just breaking out of one’s shell. She’s sure as hell declaring something but it’s more so a personal issue than she’s recovering from a bad time in her life. T–Swizz – 5 – This is a pretty loose connection given that the prominent theme here is finding the confidence to be yourself. This touches base with the fact that it's a new stage in her life, but would definitely be more appropriate for a coming of age challenge than a revival. Lucky#17 – Lotus Intro – Christina Aguilera Element – 10 – This song is PERFECT for this round, and I almost used it as the example! She references the obstacles that she has overcome, beautifully illustrates her new beginning, and it is wrapped in a production that makes you visualize rising up from the ashes. rl231– 10 – This was almost the example for the round lmao. Dylan – 9 – This song clearly tackles the concept of declaring a new era and moving on from a tough one. The last verse really seals the deal in making this a strong entry. Lyrics aside, it’s not thee most empowering track we have here but it’s one of the best lyrically for sure. Rise up, Lotus! T–Swizz – 9.5 – One of the more obvious choices, but contrary to what Citrus would have you believe, that's not necessarily a bad thing! The song tackles the theme head–on and hits all the marks, the only issue I had was that it was rather simplistic/basic and lacked depth. But you're definitely on the right track. Good Job Lucky! Tsareena – Get Free – Lana del Rey Element – 5 – Fitting that this was the last song I listened to before going to sleep. Okay, seriously the lyrics are quite lovely, but I feel as if it just touched on the theme without fully embracing it. She talks about transitioning her mindset, but she hasn’t made the jump yet. rl231 – 5 – See Marvin's explanation. Dylan – 7 – This is a decent entry. Lyrically, there’s some things that venture off topic but for the most part it’s about choosing to live life as you choose to (independently). The out of the black and into the blue line really helped you out score–wise. However, I don’t find it that empowering when compared to the bulk of these tracks. And while I know this isn’t a Christina Aguilera track, I did want songs that are a bit more upfront in the empowerment department. T-Swizz – 6 – The song focuses on changing one's mindset. Lana is trying to push herself to be in a more positive headspace and although it's a divergence from her previous state of mind, I would categorize this as the stage before a full–blown revival. Rhisiart – Skyscraper – Demi Lovato Element – 7.5 – I like this overall. It definitely references standing strong during times of pain. I do feel that there is a bit too much focus on the actions of the other party, but she still makes it clear that she is revived from that problem. rl231 – 7 – Ahhhhh, this is more on the right track for a Demi song and the theme of the round, but it doesn't quite reach the theme perfectly. I feel like it needs something about referring to the future. Dylan – 8.5 – The better Demi entry of the round. The skyscraper simile used throughout is just another way to word revival, rebirth, etc. There’s the indication she’s heading towards cloud nine while her tormentor stays on ground level. The song shines most in being one of the most empowering tracks selected sonically. The verses are a tad weak but overall good job. T-Swizz – 7.5 – Lyrically speaking, resilience is the preponderant influence within this track. Although the line: "rising from the ground" alludes to some sort of a revival, she seems to dedicate a good chunk of this to those who tried to bring her down, hence my earlier sentiment about this concerning resilience as opposed to a revival/reawakening. MusicLoverDude – Acting Out – Ashley Tisdale Element – 5 – This song captures some aspects of the theme, such as in the line: “Welcome to a new beginning, it's time to start the show”… However, the whole song feels like a rebellion, instead of having an overcoming and empowering vibe. Also, the “new beginning” is a temporary, fleeting moment, not a long–term phase. rl231 – 4 – This song needs to fit the theme more. It misses mainly because of the fact that she's talking about wanting to break free and show herself for who she really is, which isn't necessarily what this round is about. Dylan – 5.5 – You’re very much halfway there this round. This is sort of empowering though similar to This Is Me, it’s very juvenile in its empowerment. Lyrically, your biggest problem is that while she’s declaring her own independence and mentioning breaking out of her cage, there’s not much to indicate she’s had a rough time in her life and is rising from that hurtful time. It’s more so empowerment in the “Overprotected”, “Rumors”, “Can’t Be Tamed” style than revival or rebirth. However, THANK YOU for allowing me to revisit this bop–filled album. T-Swizz – 4.5 – Touches on refusing to maintain a facade, and embracing her dirty side. She seems to be debuting Ashley DIRTSdale as opposed to rising from the ashes. Mariah4life – Rise – Katy Perry Element – 9 – This is a really strong entry! It illustrates rising up in the face of adversity. My only complaint is that it seems to be a more general “I am strong/victorious” instead of specifically referencing a new beginning in her life. rl231 – 8.5 – Definitely, almost there! It just needed more of a tie in to the future, but good job! Dylan – 6 – This song contains the revival element but it’s rather miniscule. Yes, she’s rising but that’s pretty much where it stops. It somewhat mentions the people who brought her down but not specifically enough for me to fully agree on this entry. Lyrically, very so–so. I think the sonic nature of the song is where you were strongest this round. Not a horrible entry but there were better options out there. T-Swizz – 8.5 – Although this is similar to skyscraper in many ways, Katy seemed to be more concerned with survival than proving others wrong. Rise's theme has the connotation that no matter what troubles or tribulations she may have had to endure, she is now ready tackle all obstacles head on despite the odds stacked against her. Embracing a new era in her life. AlexaVon – I Don't Need a Man – Miss A Element – 2 – Unfortunately, this entry is a misfire. The song is a bop that declares one’s independence, self–love, and confidence, but there is really nothing about revival or starting a new chapter in life. It seems as if they’ve been confident and independent for a long time. I commend you for sending a non–English song though! rl231 – 2 – I'm sorry, but I'm sadly not sure where you were trying to go with this song. It falls flat, mainly because the message is just about being proud that they don't need men, but it has nothing to do with a revival of sorts. Dylan – 2 – This is really off–base. The only slight resemblance to the task set this round is that these girls are surely independent. However, even that doesn’t really work because they are not declaring they are taking their independence from a man rather than just stating “hey... i don’t need a man”. There’s no progression or change described in the song. It’s a bop but it would only work had this been a round about ladies not needing a man to complete them. I hate giving scores like this but there’s not much I can do about it. T-Swizz – 1 – Not only is this one of their WORST singles but it's also completely off–base. Should've saved it for an Independent Women challenge. Loveyoubxtch – Fight Song – Rachel Platten Element – 8 – The message of Fight Song is very good for this round, especially the lyrics in the chorus in which she references “taking back her life” and “power turning on.” I get the sense that the lyrics are focused on working to achieve her dreams and make an impact, so it’s not completely a revival, but more a strong reaffirmation of what she has always been striving for. rl231 – 7.5 – I DEFINITELY see where you were coming from with this song, and I would've probably scored it higher, based on the chorus alone. However, I feel like the story is about herself knowing that she needs to revive herself and go out there and show it. Good job! Dylan – 7.5 – I honestly do not get the hate for this song. It’s cute. Anyway, the song is empowering and while it’s cheesy in doing so... I don’t mind it too much. The problem is that besides the second verse, there’s not enough mention of the hard time she’s fighting through. There’s definite statements about moving on and reclaiming her own life, but I needed a bit more lyrically. Regardless, this is a good enough start. T-Swizz – 6.5 – Fight Song is similar to Marvin's choice in the sense that the artist is tired of holding back and wants to fully embrace them–self. But, your track seems to be more in line with a re–awakening which is why you got a higher score. Buddy! – Spinning Around – Kylie Minogue Element – 9 – Kylie definitely wants everyone to know that she is looking towards the future and that she’s “not the same” anymore. I think this song demonstrates both the obstacles of her past and the new mindset of her present, but it lyrically falls a bit flat in the chorus. rl231 – 9.5 – NEAR PERFECTION. The only reason I didn't give you a 10 here is because it wasn't something that was really "hit you in the face" with the theme. Dylan – 7 – This works better than I expected it to. The song is about reinvention and it’s empowering in a more fun manner that what you typically expect from an empowerment song. I’m just not sure whether this reinvention is a product of a rough time in her life. Yeah, she mentions mistakes but it doesn’t dive deep enough into that aspect for me. T-Swizz – 9 – Kylie re–invented herself with this track and embarked on a revival. The song is a bit basic but she clearly shows that this is a new era in her life with lines like " I threw away my old clothes, got myself a better wardrobe" and debuted THIS iconic look: @T-Swizz, we need the pic lol

rl231 Posted September 26, 2017 Author Posted September 26, 2017 Lussan Kathlen – Praying – Kesha Element – 6.5 – This has some good references to the theme, such as getting rid of her demons, but I feel as if too much of the song is focused on the actions of the other party, not Kesha herself. rl231 – 5 – I desperately wanted to rate this song higher because it's a great song, but it's not all about rebirth. It's more about wishing the person that harmed you better and just praying for their being. Dylan – 6 – This one is so conflicting. I love that she’s directly speaking to her tormentor and it’s one of the few songs that address the pain enough. However, this entry does the opposite of other entries being that moving on and reclaiming her life is almost secondary to speaking about her tormentor. I actually think Learn To Let Go was the better Rainbow option this round. T-Swizz – 6.5 – This song seems to be more about repentance and forgiveness than anything else. Those elements don't directly correlate to a re-awakening so I miss the connection you were trying to make here but Ke$ha does find an inner strength throughout the song, but like I've mentioned multiple times before, that isn't the only thing we're looking for. Guero – Defying Gravity – Idina Menzel Element – 8.5 – I actually really liked this entry and think that it represents the theme quite well. She is at that pivotal moment and is making the jump – it’s a new beginning. The obstacles are not as prevalent here, but it works. rl231 – 5.5 – I can see where you're coming from, but it's a slight miss. She's recognizing that she needs to live her own life and accept herself, but it's not necessarily a revival of sorts. Dylan – 6 – This track is similar to This Is Me in the sense that the songs about living your own life but doesn’t really have to do with revival from a time of suffering or pain. It’s just that initial leap of faith really. T-Swizz – 8 – Touches on freedom, trusting your instincts, and explicitly states that she's been through a change. Solid entry but lacks some elements that other songs had. Fa1x Intelectual – Rebecca Black – The Great Divide Element – 3 – There are some references to this being a change in her life, but I don’t see much else about the theme. She’s moving on from a bad breakup, not really reviving per se. rl231 – 3 – Definitely more of a break-up song than a song about being revived. Dylan – 3 – This screams break-up song to me. The lyric about “leaving you behind” has something to do with declaring independence but not in the way this round asked for. It’s just a normal break-up song really. I’m not a fan of giving people super low scores but this one was a straight misfire to me. T-Swizz – 2 – This is a response to a break-up & deals with moving on from it. No where in the lyrics does it ever mention or allude to a revival of any kind. Citrus – In My Mind – Amanda Palmer Element – 2.5 – I don’t really see this song and the theme working together very well, except for the twist at the end where she says she has made those changes and is the person she wants to be. But unfortunately, it just seems like a general assessment of her hopes and dreams. rl231 – 4 – Again, totally see where you were going with this song, but it's a miss. She seems to be talking about how she should change soon but has many excuses for it. Dylan – 1.5 – I’m not getting this one... at all. The song itself is cute but I don’t see any place where it’s about reviving yourself from a hard time in life. There’s no declaration of freedom or independence and I’m sad to give you a score like this. T-Swizz – 7 – Love the song but it's essentially one profound epiphany. It seems rather common that everyone's ideals and expectations change over time so I'm not too sure if I'd categorize this as a revival or a simply acknowledgement of maturity and growth. Alena - Happy - Marina and the Diamonds Element – 5 – There are moments in this that I really liked lyrically, and it definitely seems to hint at her claiming a new mindset in her life. However, it is a bit general and I feel as if achieving happiness is a long-term journey. rl231 – 5.5 – See Guero's comment. Dylan – 4.5 – This song is about self-acceptance and learning to be happy with who you are. A few other songs focused more so on that than moving past a rough time in life. But, while those songs weren’t that strong lyrically, they were at least declaring a change of mind and that’s what made them a stronger entry than this. T-Swizz – 6.5 – Similar to Tsareena's choice in the sense that it's more about being happier with oneself and changing your mindset, but you track had slightly stronger hints of a re–awakening so your score is a bit higher. Queen Conchita - I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor Element – 7 – Okay, this one definitely gets a bit caught up in sticking it to the person who left her; however, she clearly talks about pulling herself out of a dark time, surviving, and thriving after their breakup, so it does work to an extent! rl231 – 7 – It was a tad ironic (given your name) that you got beat out for the Conchita song, but that's what happens sometimes! Anyways, the song, it's definitely on the right track to be a good entry, but the only issue is that while she's revitalized, the overall theme of the song is about her getting over a guy that hurt her and how he's not welcome. Dylan – 7 – I changed my score for this one like three times. Lucky for you, my score went up in the end. I think this is a decent fit. I’m not too keen on the break–up song route this round but unlike other break–up songs, your song displays a transition from weak to strong and mentions a rebirth into something new. I just wish it did that a little more often. T-Swizz – 7.5 – This song clearly shows that she's turning a new page. Although she dedicates some of the song to her past relationship, it was crucial in helping her change, hence why it didn't take away from the over–all theme. Taeyeon - Into the Blue - Kylie Minogue Element – 8 – This one is pretty solid, discussing how she left many things behind and is running into freedom and a new phase of her life. Kylie emphasizes that she has been through the cold and has memories she can’t erase, but keeps the fire burning and is in control of her life now. rl231 – 7.5 – I like the song, but I feel like it's on the right track but quite not there. It needs to be more about a revival and less about the past. Dylan – 7 – This one feels and sounds like a reinvention. However, the lyrics about clinging onto the past despite moving on hurt you a lot and I don’t think there’s quite enough about the tough time she’s moved on from. But, there’s reinvention and that’s something not present in many entries this round. T-Swizz – 10 – There isn't a single flaw. Kylie Jenner - Rise Like a Phoenix – Conchita Wurst Element – 9 – I think the chorus of this song is one of the strongest this round, and is supported by verses that discuss the dark times. The phoenix metaphor is pretty flawless. rl231 – 8.5 – Ahhhhh, the Conchita entry! Very similar to Rise (hence, the same score), but just needed more of a tie–in to the future. Dylan – 8.5 – This song focuses on rebirth from a tormentor hurting them previously. The term “rise like a phoenix” isn’t anything groundbreaking but you hit the mark for this round unlike most others and that makes this one of the best entries this round. T-Swizz – 10 – Great job! This is definitely one of the best entries as it details the evolution she goes through physically and mentally. Powerful message for the transgender community and it was beautifully written. PoKiTaurus - Brave New Girl - Britney Spears Element – 5.5 – This one sets the scene for her wanting something new in her life. However, it feels more like a coming of age song than one that describes revival from a period of obstacles. rl231 – 5 – Hahahaha what is this song. It's like a overtly futuristic Disney song. ANYWAYS, the lyrics are all that matter here! I see where you were going, but I feel like this doesn't really tie into the future or anything. It's just about how she's going out and is braver now. Dylan – 4.5 – This song is about independence but it’s more so along the lines of “Overprotected” than a revival. There’s no tough time she’s rising from here. The girl is just seeing the world for the first time. And it’s not that empowering rather than a cute bubblegum pop track. T-Swizz – 7 – I'm not sure if I would categorize this as either a re–awakening or a revival, but rather a transition. She's more confident and comfortable with herself but talks about change more so than the other songs that dealt with similar themes.

rl231 Posted September 26, 2017 Author Posted September 26, 2017 Cofresí Fruity – Roar – Katy Perry Element – 9 – I think that this is one of the strongest choices this round, and it makes it quite clear that she has transitioned into a new, more confident phase in her life. The lyrics are broad enough in referencing the obstacles that I think anyone could use this as a reawakening anthem. rl231 – 8 – I feel like this was definitely on the right path and almost there. It's definitely a revitalization of sorts, but I need more of a tie–in to the future. Dylan – 8 – Okay, this song tackles the theme in the most basic manner possible but it at least tackles the theme so that’s enough for me. She was hurt. She’s healed. And now she’s speaking out for the first time in her life. Good start. T-Swizz – 6.5 – A lot of people seemed to fall into the same hole this round, re–affirming your belief in yourself and finding inner–confidence isn't necessarily a revival. Not only that but the lyrics here are mind–numbingly repetitive and basic. Rise would've definitely been the better option if you wanted to do Katy (but you gotta be faster than Mariah4life next time). wesleywalrus – Fighter – Christina Aguilera Element – 7.5 – There are certain parts of this song that really hit the nail on the head, especially the series of comparative adjectives in the chorus. Reading through the lyrics, however, makes me realize how much of a focus there is on the cheater and what he has done and is doing right now, so that revenge–esque vibe lowers your score a bit. rl231 – 8.5 – Almost there. But really good! It's similar to Roar, but I think it beats it out mainly because the song builds as a story and works slightly better thematically. Dylan – 9.5 – This may get mixed reviews but I love it. It displays the pain she endured, mentions how it motivated her to keep going, and builds into a declaration that no one’s going to stop her now (she’s revitalized). Nice job. T-Swizz – 7.5 – Again, this is similar to the mistake Rihstart made. The song touches on a re-awakening but seems to be more concerned with resilience and dedicates the song to someone else. The track falls in line with the "whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger" mindset and sparingly mentions elements of a revival. I originally had this lower but I'm being lenient since this is your first round. Aciid – Yes I'm Changing – Tame Impala Element – 6 – This track hits on the theme at certain points, but it seems to emphasize the end of a relationship, thus occluding the idea of a revival for that specific narrator. Not bad but not super clear either. rl231 – 6 – I feel like this song is more about moving on from a break-up and a hint to the future but not necessarily a reinvention. Dylan – 6.5 – This ventures off topic a lot in mentioning the ex/break–up but unlike other entries there’s multiple lyrics about finding a new version of themselves which is another of saying they’re revived, reborn, etc. Not great but it works better than quite a few entries this round. T-Swizz – 8 – The second verse of this song shows that he's already in the process of a new era and that it's too late to turn back. However there are a couple flaws; the theme seems to incorporate changing your mentality but he dedicates a portion of the song to his previous relationship, making the narrative a bit convoluted. The song could've been a bit more clear but adequately displays that he's turning a new page in life and on the path towards a revival of some sort. K$Ellie – Kesha – Rainbow Element – 8 – This is pretty solid for this theme, and I love how it uses colors as the metaphor for revival. Kesha is clearly marking a new phase in her life, and actually places an interesting spin on things by saying she’s still messed up, but is moving forward. Good job. rl231 – 8 – Definitely the better choice of the two Kesha songs, and it took me a bit to fully understand the meaning, but it fits the theme relatively well. Dylan – 8 – I like the use of black and white + colors to display the transition from the pain to the present. The song makes it clear that the past is over and a new era is upon us and that’s the basis of this round. T-Swizz – 9.5 – This was a great choice. Clearly displays that there was a transition and it contains multiple elements of a revival. Not only is she embracing her past mistakes, but she's able to tell us that even when you're on the brink of giving up on yourself and life altogether, you can always turn the page and learn to love life again. It's a very powerful message and I'm glad you chose it. Speezy – Warrior – Demi Lovato Element – 9 – A beautiful ballad. I haven’t listened to this in a long time, but it definitely represents the theme very well. She discusses the obstacles she has gone through and underscores the wisdom she has learned because of them. Her revival is victorious. rl231 – 9 – GREAT CHOICE! Dylan – 9.5 – Demi Domination this round, huh? I think you chose the best Demi track this round. The song describes how she was hurt in detail and then makes a declaration that she’s strong and how that person can’t hurt her again. Nice job Speezy. T-Swizz – 8.5 – I never realized how homogeneous Demi's discography was until this challenge. Almost all the songs submitted by her dealt with the same themes (self empowerment, resilience, and building thicker skin). I wouldn't quite call it a complete revival as it seems to be another self–assertion in herself but it was close! This seems to be the Demi song that hits closest to the mark so good job. Riri. – Alive – Sia Element– 6.5 – This one is kind of hard to put my finger on. I like it but I don’t at the same time. It definitely describes an era of pain and perseverance, but I don’t get a sense of reawakening directly through the lyrics – only through the powerful production as she sings “I’m alive!” rl231 – 6 – This song is more about surviving something traumatic, rather than reinventing oneself. Dylan – 10 – Possibly the best entry this round? Empowerment is there, mention of suffering in the past is there, and the declaration that she’s okay and moving on from the past is also present. Great choice Riri! T-Swizz – 6 – This was fine until I read the second verse where she states: "I saw my life in a stranger's face, and it was mine" points to elements of survival and eventually finding solace and stability, Sia is still coming to terms with her "reflection". A re-awakening of sorts I suppose but this is a pretty weak submission. talent – The Climb – Miley Cyrus Element – 5 – This song is more focused on persistence and determination rather than reawakening. She promises that she will stay strong to achieve her goals, but she has not really entered a new phase in her life yet. rl231 – 4 – It's not really about reinvention/revival at all but rather just getting over that next hurdle in life. Dylan – 5 – You chose an empowerment track but there’s some problems with it for sure. One, she seems to be addressing self–doubt than some horrible time in her life. And within that journey, she’s only in the process of it. The rebirth hasn’t necessarily hit just yet. T-Swizz – 5 – Similar to Marvin's selection in the sense that it's a coming of age anthem, but displays a bit more elements of a revival/re-awakening. She mentions overcoming struggles, but fails to talk about starting a new chapter in her life or any other major element that shows it's a revival or re-awakening. You missed the mark a bit but I decided to be a bit lenient given that this is the first round. Scotty – Stronger – Britney Spears Element – 6 – The theme is discussed in this song, but it’s a very simple set of lyrics. She is stronger than yesterday, yes, but what has she truly learned and experienced to make her feel this way? rl231 – 6 – Similar to Alive (without the trauma and more about a relationship), so you get a similar score. Dylan – 6 – The track hits the empowerment theme and it’s definitely about independence. There’s just not much mention at all about what hurt her. Yeah, her now ex–boyfriend sucks but I think a transition from hurt to strong was crucial for more than an average score this round. Not a bad start though. T-Swizz – 6 – A simpler and more basic version of wesley's submission. Losing my ground – Todos Me Miran – Gloria Trevi Element – 7.5 – The lyrics were really building up in the verses. I thought she was going to establish the concept of reawakening very well, but then the chorus just kind of became about how others adore her, rather than how she has felt revitalization in her spirit. rl231 – 6 – Similar to Alive (without the trauma and more about a relationship), so you get a similar score. Dylan – 7.5 – I think you understood the basis of this round. She’s moved on from someone that hurt her and now she’s optimistic about her future. Pretty good start for you. T-Swizz– 8 – Good entry. Displays theme well but not as well as others. Final Results coming up.

Rhisiart Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Question for the judges because I'm curious: my backup was Frozen's Let It Go. Would that have been a higher scoring song, or a flop?
Queen Conchita Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 @Fa1x intelectual you should've used one of my suggestions
