Highlight: Both pre-choruses. WIG.

Lowlight: The verses; I like the storytelling aspect, but the delivery feels a little flat at times

 

Tsareena: 

Highlight: The topic, the imagery in the verses, esp. the budding heart being picked raw. WHEW.

Lowlight: The chorus; some of the phrasing is awkward (denying a bloom)

Lowlight: How you ignored my comment from last week about using imagery while ALSO having a clear message and/or narrative arc. This gets lost in the overwrought imagery for me, again. For example, “They enchant the mystery of what spell bewitched the light here” is nonsensical. Also, the switching from 1st person to 3rd person.

 

Mxtt: 

Highlight: The playful tone was nice, given the dark tone of other songs

Lowlight: But it also bordered on cheesy at times, like eating porridge. Lacked the lyricism we saw last round.

 

Aurora: 

Highlight: I’m sure you already know I’m gonna say the closing couplet of the chorus. Also love the clear LWYMMD vibes. Talent inspiring talent!

Lowlight: I think it’s wordy. There are lines that just aren’t as strong as others that can be cute to let the best ones shine even brighter. This is something I think I’ve seen with you in the past, too. Your great writing skills could be enhanced with great editing skills. 

 

uvie: 

Highlight: Love the thematic resonance with Banks “Waiting Game” (but from like the other side). The song doesn’t have the most complex lyrics, but the emotion is there and moved me tbh.

Lowlight: Some of the language felt familiar and simplistic. The specificity of “tell me about your hotel room” is nice, but “lonely nights” and “all I need is you” is too pedestrian.

 

SaintWest: 

Highlight: Maybe my fave song of yours so far? Love how you took inspiration from my PhD dissertation about flight! The imagery and flow are both great.

Lowlight: The first half of the song feels a bit cheesy to me. I know the overall theme risks that, but it only comes out for me in the first verse. Either way, great subtlety is kind of needed to address this kind of topic and it’s not there all the time.

I won't even lie, LWYMMD's opening scene may or may not have popped into my mind once or twice during the conception of this bop.
