Receipt: https://web.archive.org/web/20161208010351/http://www.mediatraffic.de/

As of December 2016, the album X has sold more than 8.6 million copies worldwide

1989 eventually became the best-selling album of 2014 in the US market and has sold over 6 milion as of January 2017, while selling 9.5 million worldwide.

Album sales bigger check.

Single sales bigger check. (Doesn't even need receipts like you all know this) :ahh:

Bigger tour check. (You can find the receipts in wikipedia)

Bigger celebrity and cultural impact check.

They lost :ahh:

Can we at least agree that 1989 was a much bigger era worldwide than X? Or is the delusion that massive :celestial5:

If we can agree on that simple truth then you guys are seriously basing this on a couple weeks of SOY doing amazingly and 1 day of his new album? Madness :rip:

We live in a world where the US exists :rip:

Can't just not count it, cause you want to.

Good for Thinking Out Loud.

One song is slightly bigger than Shake It Off. Ed Sheeran is bigger than Taylor WW confirmed. :rip:

Oh and WW (WORLDWide) means US + Other countries in this World :rip:

Yeah, I meant outside of the USA, I thought we were judging their globalness. We all know Taylor's american numbers are unmatched (outside of Adele obv)

Anyway this is Ed's peak, not "x" era. As Shape of You is his biggest hit + divide is debuting with way more than multiply.

btw Photograph just topped 600M streams. :jonny:

Not too far fetched as of now tbh..

With a huge margin yeah, former record was 8.2 million (by SOY).

highest daily streams before were One Dance 7.15 mill in may 2016 and before that Hello with 7.06 million in oct 2015 (it was the first ever over 7, 6 and even 5 million daily streams :deadbanana3: )

Umm albums include streams now in the UK???

There's no way Ed can outdo Adele's 803k with though

yes it's been like that for a while but it's way different from US. They'll add max 60k point to the total (and Ed's streams are absolutely insane there)

He won't touch her but I feel like he could have if he had released this past November

I think he will fall short...First day tends to be the biggest sales day and that day alone he fell short of like 80k to match Adele's first day.

Adele is bigger than Ed. I don't mean to disrespect or "shade" Ed and/or his fans. But to suggest he's as big as Adele is beyond any realm of possibility.

I've seen people write something even in very respectful ways on here, and fans of the artists consider it/them shade(s). Ed probably has the edge in streaming, but also remember Adele didn't put her albums on ODS websites right away when she releases them. So by the time millions of people have already bought her albums (or downloads), there's less incentive to want to stream what they already have.
