Gaga is in the same boat as them, but she's respected and in the primary cabin, with full service. Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran are sleeping on cots and sharing a room. And Miley Cyrus is probably lounging nude on deck, writing yet another song about Liam Hemsworth.

I think what the controversies surrounding Dr. Luke did was to turn off her casual fans and fanbase. The GP hasn't cared for Katy since Smile or else the debut of Woman's World would've reflected that. Most of them probably don't even know of the Dr. Luke debacle. 

Now gurl I'm not a Katy Cat but there was definitely a lot of goodwill for Katy's return. It's just that the song was so meh and on top of that produced by Dr Luke that it was entirely dead on arrival

Gaga's career really should be studied. Her foray into movies is quite unique (and even the comparisons to Cher highlight the fact that only one other artist in history has made that crossover). Despite JFAD: the benefit of having both dimensions to her career is that it keeps her fanbase fed and the GP aware of her at all times, so she's never really 'gone'. Even if she flops in one, she can try to smash in the other. So now she's back in the spotlight for MAYHEM, studios would want her again despite JFAD; and even if her next music project flops, she can try to get a movie smash; etc. It's a pretty good spot to be in.

Also it doesn't hurt that she's an actual innovator and auteur in the music side. Joanne cannot be more different from Chromatica. Whereas someone like Ed — this stupid new song could've been in any of his albums. (Why would people tune in if they've heard that song before?)

I'm happy to see Ed flopping with that cheap attempt at grabbing a hit with that dated as hell generic sound.

 

Miley is serving pure artistic perfection so don't do too much on her here. She's in her arts not the charts era.

 

Love to see Gaga's second best album winning like that tho!
