Much prefer Mayhem, and the production is miles better. Visually Chromatica's concept is superior (bar a few examples like SL MV). Mayhem's gothic horror look is not particularly innovative for her and it doesn't quite fit the album as a whole.

I really, really want to like Mayhem but I find it grating at times.

On the other hand I absolutely HATE the Chromatica photoshoot but enjoy the whole album.

 

I really want to connect with Mayhem but only can with some songs

Absolutely not. Aside from a handful of fan favorites, Chromatica is probably Gaga's most soulless and faceless pop album. The least Gaga of them all.

 

Mayhem is being lauded as a "return to form" for a reason.

I think the recency bias made people overcriticize Chromatica undeservedly. But I don't think it's better, the problem with Chromatica was the song lengths. They really gave no space for the songs do to anything subversive, have a breakdown or a bridge. Mayhem takes a lot more turns in that sense

Listen, I love great visuals and the remix album is amazing, but they're separate from the actual album. Chromatica is good, but mainly Gaga on autopilot. It saw shimmers of potential and we got some classic Gaga with Rain On Me, 911, Replay & Babylon. 

 

However with MAYHEM you can feel the excitement in the tracks, the free will to do whatever they felt was right & more importantly you can feel Gaga throughout the whole project. MAYHEM is infinitely more interesting than Chromatica & I still really ******* love Chromatica, but she really outdid herself this time

Not really, Mayhem is still the better album. However, I'm tired of the narrative of this album being bad or something. It's cohesive, flows well and the production is 10/10. It's definitely one of her finest work (while TF and BTW are big fan favorites, the production is kinda chaotic and all over the place, while in both Chromatica and Mayhem it feels better done).

Mayhem is Gaga's best work since BTW.  Chrom is a good album, but a lot of the songs aged horribly.

Both are great records and I think Chromatica has 2 of the highest highs (911 and Replay) but Mayhem is more consistent and the highs are arguably just as high. I'd say Mayhem is better but not by a large margin. All of her records are pretty great.

I don't think they're THAT different in terms of quality, and I say this as a good thing. I really, really like Chromatica and i don't get why it gets so much sh*t.

Sure Chromatica has it's low moments, but the highs are higher, whereas MAYHEM has lows too, but the highs just don't go high enough IMO...

I def agree. I love Chromatica and I still keep finding myself listening to it start to finish (I really don't get why this album it's so underappreciated, for me it's one of her best albums). Unfortunately I can't say the same for Mayhem, I like some songs, but the whole album is nothing near to what Chromatica gives me.

Wrong. Babylon may be a bop, but she put way more effort into Mayhem. Her heart was not 100% in Chromatica at all. 

 

I'm not gonna take the fandom who routinely trashes the masterpiece that is Joanne seriously.

(I would kill for her to make another album like that but she's not gonna cause of her stans).

Out of all the dance pop albums (excluding Joanne) it is her weakest dance pop record overall. Some songs really lack her signature sound and style in music. Vocally, lyrically and production wise Mayhem is miles better. Chromatica is still a great album of course. Whenever someone feels the need to present their subjective taste in music as fact, you just know they're seeking validation and are just attention seeking. Nice try though.
