It seems like YOU are the one that has a race issue if this is your take on this matter. Britney has ALWAYS credited Janet as one of her main inspirations and influences. Still, if you're versed in Janet and Britney's careers you will know how different they are as artists, but if you have a problem with white women then that is something for you to sort out babes, miss me with your racist takes. 6 1
Popular Post qurl Posted yesterday at 12:26 AM Popular Post Posted yesterday at 12:26 AM Britney is a student of Janet. that doesn't mean she's trying to do a Janet impression, or at least in the way Lizzo said it which was in a way to negate Britney's contributions to pop/dance music as a reductive retread of what Janet's already done. Britney's carved her own lane. i don't know why you'd feel the need to kick her when she's already been through so much. Lizzo herself is an amalgamation of many different artists which leaves her, in a way, soundless. she adapts to what white music industry executives need from her based on radio trends, and that to me is a lot more soulless than Britney's music but to each their own! 22 5

Mtjjproducer Posted yesterday at 12:32 AM Posted yesterday at 12:32 AM As much as I HATE Lizzo she's right. Especially in Britney's peak. Hell her entire 3rd era is basically an all for you tribute album. She took Janet left overs, used Janet's music video location with overprotected remix, anticipating is a waterdown all for you cover. Toxic was also a Janet passed track. I love Britney's second era through blackout. But copied Janet's blueprint then credited Madonna. That being said she stopped coping her blackout on. But her first few eras she was highly influenced by Janet. 3 7 9

Basic research will show you that early K-pop was explicitly inspired by black artists OT: Lizzo's take is so silly. It's no secret that Britney was inspired by Janet, and they had some stylistic overlap in the mid 2000s, but overall their catalogs are pretty different. 2 1

But her first few eras she was highly influenced by Janet. ?? Britney has been more vocal about Janet's influence on her artistry than Madonna. The reason we have the Madonna comparisons is because she's the next biggest pop culture phenomenon SINCE Madonna. She was deemed the Princess of Pop, while Madonna and MJ has solidified their titles as the Queen and King of Pop, respectively. It's funny because it's not Britney who forgets to credit Janet, it's the people. And up until now, this very year, Britney still dances to Janet on her IG. No one cares about tou, Lizzo. Always doing something for the clout. 11 2
YourFavoriteWeapon Posted yesterday at 12:37 AM Posted yesterday at 12:37 AM Despite how I hate her and don't really want to defend her, I think Lizzo meant this in a nice way

Mainstream music as we know it originated in black culture, but there's a big difference is someone being inspired by and being an impersonator.

Snickers Posted yesterday at 12:43 AM Posted yesterday at 12:43 AM Lizzo being pathetic, nothing new. Britney has drawn some inspiration from Janet. Just like Gaga did from Madonna. Nicki from Lil' Kim. Beyonce from Tina and so on. I think Lizzo can't tell the difference between inspiration and impersonation because she, Lizzo, never made an identify for herself. She's a slightly more successful Bebe Rexha. She's kinda just there 1 1 2

From how to sing it, how she wanted to sound, etc. Of course, people like you would not believe that but yeah. You people rely too much on "it was the team" to discredit female artists. There's clear distinction between who was pushed a certain way by a team and wasn't. OT: I don't think she meant harm by this. Janet has always been more of a blueprint for Brit than Madonna as the industry pegged it in the beginning. Impression or impersonating is not the word however.
