1989 Posted Tuesday at 01:14 AM Posted Tuesday at 01:14 AM It's wild to me how it always seems like she has the right idea, but then never fails to add something that just misses the mark and comes off as ignorant. Yes, she is correct in that no one needs to be looking to pop stars to be their political advisors. We don't need Taylor Swift or Beyoncé to give us their every political opinion; we don't need any pop star to give us one at all. But of course, she follows it up by implying that being a pop star means being too busy to stay all that up to date on politics, anyway. Of course, we all know the average person working a 9-5 isn't all that up to date as it is, but girl, you're a…pop star. You're not busier than the average person. That isn't to say pop stars don't work hard, because a lot of them do, but that job comes with a **** ton of privilege that the average person doesn't have—you definitely have time to stay up to date on anything. I would've left that comment out because even if she didn't mean anything by it, it's an easy sentence to criticize. 7 1
Polgg48 Posted Tuesday at 01:30 AM Posted Tuesday at 01:30 AM out of every pop girl, she is totally represent gen-z ideology and ironically all those haters are all her ages, which amazes me ive never seen any other gen hate their relative range so much as the z listers. she is not wrong and everyone overreacting for no reason.
tellem Posted Tuesday at 10:15 AM Posted Tuesday at 10:15 AM I think she wanted the benefits of being an "outspoken" celebrity but hates the idea of anyone actually engaging with what she says lol. Other celebrities make it look really easy tbf. Some of you are doing way too much though. It's probably very frustrating for every statement you make to follow you basically forever. Also EVERYONE is capable of sounding ignorant or tone deaf sometimes. Especially when you're doing a lot of public speaking/appearances/interviews.
Welovetrouble Posted Tuesday at 01:50 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:50 PM She's right though, because why Is it when some **** is going down in the world and people are out here wondering what their favorites celebrities think and that is weird imo. As long as a celebrity isn't being bigoted or using their platform to further harm a marginalised group and they do their jobs well leave them alone and speak on political issues that you are passionate about. 1

The divisive reaction to her relatively lukewarm statements is very strange to me
Radical Pessimism Posted Tuesday at 02:58 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:58 PM Yet she acted as an expert on politics before the election. Ms Roan, pls! 1 2

Temporal Posted Wednesday at 12:09 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:09 AM Part of why her Gov Ball set was SO incredible last year was that she spoke so passionately about supporting Palestine. To see her back pedal all the way on that here is so disheartening.
king_queen Posted Wednesday at 06:10 AM Posted Wednesday at 06:10 AM She was sooooo in tune with politics when it was time to speak in opposition to the Biden administration during the election cycle (don't blame her) but now we have ALL of this political unrest under the trump administration and all of a sudden she's overwhelmed? And the usual suspects who are constantly attacking the Democratic Party and now in here defending her Insufferable. 1 1 2
cuteboyzay Posted Thursday at 06:53 AM Posted Thursday at 06:53 AM She's literally YT, what do y'all expect? It doesn't matter how queer she is, her YT-ness will ALWAYS come before her queerness. We keep telling y'all this and y'all seem to keep forgetting because of her YT privilege. I love Chappell Roan and I think she's such a talent. But you guys being so easily swayed by so many of your YT faves and then turn around and getting pissed at them for saying some ignorant sh*t is more of a YOU issue. The bar is so low for YT artists, yet y'all still prop them up to becoming Pop Phenomenons when you have no idea who they truly are. All I know is that Madonna and Lady Gaga would have NEVERRR said some BS like this. And they became megastars during a time when the industry was MUCH more grueling and a lottt tougher to even breakthrough. I still think Chappell deserves the right to have her opinion, and I PARTIALLY understand where she's coming from. But I feel sometimes she just needs to keep some of those thoughts to HERSELF. 1
Harrier Posted Thursday at 07:36 AM Posted Thursday at 07:36 AM She is the type of person who isn't that smart but lacks self awareness about it, so she just runs her mouth endlessly But I don't care about that and I don't agree with this backlash. So she isn't a polically savvy person, who tf cares she's there to sing silly songs about pink ponies. The girls need to lighten up
Archetype Posted Thursday at 07:31 PM Posted Thursday at 07:31 PM (edited) She's just very immature and needs time to grow into being a functional adult. I've listened to a few of her interviews by now, and she sounds like a high-schooler when she talks. She's coming from the right place and means well, but she doesn't yet understand how to articulate herself properly and know when to keep something to herself. It'll come in time. Some artists (like Gaga or Madonna, for example) were very mature and sharp for their age when debuting, and I think our frame of reference is to people like that who are actually an exception (which is one of the many reasons why they are so great) instead of the norm.
