KatyPrismSpirit Posted March 29 Posted March 29 (edited) Lady Gaga's Abracadabra is already a big contender for Video of the Year at the VMAs, but should Gaga also win the Vanguard Award as well to celebrate the fact that she has been making good videos for 16 years now? Katy Perry, the icon and legend herself, won this great honor last year for a reference Also no no ATRL, a TRICON award is not the same as a Video Vanguard award. Sorry! Illuminati Posted March 29 Posted March 29 It's the VMAs If she gets it - great, but realistically no one cares 8
Nico Robin Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Yes, she deserves it and Abracadabra deserves video of the year 7
Aston Martin Posted March 29 Posted March 29 It'd be cool for the medley performance that would accompany it, but she has a tour date on this year's VMAs. And I'd rather see her get another Grammy than the Vanguard if I had to choose between the two. 11
prettyinpink940 Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Yes but I have a feeling they're gonna give it to Bieber to launch his comeback.

RideOrDie Posted March 29 Posted March 29 she can buy it anytime she wants just like other acts but she is not in a place of her career where she needs to worry about rehabilitating her image or boosting her career with a vanguard (not like it does anything for anyone's career), maybe in a decade it would be a cute moment for her to check off the list. 3 1

She got a tricon award or something and that is a inaugural award for artists who are accomplished in both three disciplines: music, film and something else idk. The Vanguard Award is for impact on music video culture so it's different. Edited March 29 by KatyPrismSpirit
єѕℓαм Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Ofc she deserves it but idgaf abt that award anymore her medley performance is gonna be iconic tho 2
Aston Martin Posted March 29 Posted March 29 (edited) 5 minutes ago, KatyPrismSpirit said: she can get both I don't think they'll give her the Vanguard this year since she'll be in Toronto on the day they're going on. Everyone who's gotten the vanguard since the early 2010s has been there in person. Edited March 29 by Aston Martin
Maleficent Posted March 29 Posted March 29 If we're being real she deserved it more than a large percentage of other winners I can remember. 3 1
Popular Post Mix Posted March 29 Popular Post Posted March 29 (edited) Gaga got her own TRICON award. Back in the day MJ was first to get Vanguard and that's why it was named after him for decades. Gaga got something better than the MJ award, she got her own, just like MJ. Edited March 29 by Mix 15
FailSafe Posted March 29 Posted March 29 (edited) Nah. Everyone and their mother already have it. Gaga not having it seems just right in a way lol Edited March 29 by FailSafe
Kurt Hummel Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Does she deserve? Yes. Will she get it? Probably not. It's the kind of award that labels buy for promo, and I'm not sure Gaga cares that much about it 2

Dual Lips Posted March 29 Posted March 29 No, she doesn't. After Katy's win, now it lost its meaning. 7

Same goes for that honorary Oscar Angela Bassett got. To me it feels like "you're not good enough for the real thing but here you have something you fan play at home with so shut up". Idk just my 2 cents on that. She has plenty of prestigious awards and deservedly so. The vanguard award would still be sweet for the performance. 1
GipJo Posted March 29 Posted March 29 She deserves but won't get it, she has tour this year during that time.

They surely are arranged in someway. (Such as Variety's Hitmaker Awards, Dr. Dre Global Impact Grammy, the iHeartRadio Innovator Award or Billboard Women in Music awards etc.) and they are still very nice honors to get. Every recipient of the Vanguard Award over the last few years deserved it in their own right, regardless if they are currently big or not and I'm pretty sure Gaga would be very honored and grateful to receive such a thing.
