Overall his trajectory since releasing Montero has been odd. You have an album with Miley, Doja and Megan features but cut the era short.

Then J Christ and then it took an even worse turn.

i'm still mad at him for paying dust to Scoop that was the 4th hit of the album waiting to happen :dies:

This is the first project I like from him. I'm into it. Why is everyone so concerned about him not being appealing anymore, can y'all just enjoy the music, seesh.

These folks are obsessed with charts.

Lil Nas X has made it clear to just enjoy the music for now while he's still recording the actual album.

His new music is really good.

Regardless of the turn of events, a lot of the songs on this are great. I especially love Big Dummy and Need Dat Boy. Glad he's no longer chasing virality and is just making good music now

See, when all you do is rely on cheap gimmicks and provocative behavior, this is what you get. No career can be sustained without true talent and artistic integrity. :suburban:

I'm so TIRED and OVER  artists releasing EPs and single after single with no album. You might as well surprise release and let it play out naturally. He has had an album since what? 2021 and now he's pulling a Cardi B. Dreamboy already feels stale.

I love how every thread people pretend like his "fall off" isn't due to homophobia. They'll say things like he's too sexual while Sabrina Carpenter simulates sex in front of 8 year olds. Lets call a thing a THING. Instead of helping him out, you punks add to it and point the finger as if an agenda isn't happening. He is the ONLY openly and visually queer artist to have such huge mainstream success then suddenly it is gone? Come on now.

What happened to Omar? He was gaining traction then it went poof. Yeah, homophobia is the culprit.

I don't agree fully with this, but I see what you're saying. The thing is he was sexual last era and got two smashes. His fan base are like straight Gen Z boys (you can tell from the YouTube comments)... they're not going to gag over him going full femme and the audience that would (gays/girls) were turned off by his shock jock antics and signed off on him years ago. J Christ being distasteful, a complete Montero retread with the video and being a bad song stopped everything right in his tracks. Because he doesn't have a public persona outside of his online trolling and UGC videos, people don't identify with him and support him in the way a project like this needs.

Light Again is the best song he's ever released and had it been released in Q1 rather than Q4 with a better video, it would've had a shot. All of the tracks on this are good to great. I think his label still believes in him because of OTR, so my guess is their pivot is going to be making more Madden soundtrack sounding music like Industry Baby, but I think he should kind of take a step back and find a way to rectify his persona and show what he's learned in the years off through performances rather than dilute the sound. Everything that got dropped should have made the album.

And there are mainstream artists succeeding with openly, visually queer projects (Troye/Sam to a lesser extent, Conan kind of) but they're obviously not black and not rappers, so I do understand and agree with you being defensive over it. I would love for him to find a way to make this era work so that it can open the door for more queer rappers in the future.
