Tm4074 Posted March 30 Posted March 30 I've been listening to the new tracks non-stop. They could have been on the original they're that good. Hampstead is probably her strongest ballad and her strongest writing in that genre. She said no more half-assed deluxe this time. The numbers are really good for a deluxe. Its outperforming all other recent deluxe albums on average. Remember this isn't a new album lol. Getting a smash hit on a deluxe is difficult without a giant push and/or viral moment, especially in this music climate. Her only smash deluxe single was Bang Bang and that was simply because she tacked it on after it smashed and was heavily promoted as the lead from Jessie J's album...and it was a different era of music when digital single sales still had relevance. I hope the wait for AG8 isn't as long as the wait between Positions and ES. Tbh I don't expect her to disappear for as long as some fans do. This album clearly reignited her passion for music and you can tell in the quality and how much effort she put into this era. The symbolism in the Hampstead part of the short-film with music bringing her back to life was symbolic of that. We know she can't help herself and stay away from making music once something significant happens in her life and she has something to say. 7

It's possible that they're waiting to see which of the tracks pick up steam organically before pushing one on radio. I don't think she's been blacklisted (even Popular got some radio support).

I really don't have that much faith in her team, especially after how they handled this era when it came to the singles and their radio push
Busty Woman Posted March 30 Posted March 30 My only gripe with the marketing side of things is Twilight Zone being #13 on Today's Top Hits that's literally the only reason it fell so hard, i hope it gets pushed up later in the week 1
NickARTPOP Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Phenomenal new tracks. If she really had #thecourage she should have just replaced true story, the boy is mine, imperfect for you, and ordinary things with them and pretended they don't exist. I'm just happy I get to blast warm in the car though! 2 1

She's not blacklisted. It's just radio these days are very risk adverse, they keep proven smash hits around forever because it's safe and they don't jump on new songs unless they become undeniable even if its a release from a huge artist. Ariana hasn't had a smash radio era since Positions which was 5 years ago and Positions had cross genre appeal with urban markets. Consistency is key for pop radio since they are so risk adverse. Taylor went through a period of struggling with pop radio from Reputation up until Midnights when Anti-Hero smashed. Once she got her undeniable smash hit, radio was more comfortable with taking chances on her subsequent single releases. Pop radio is fickle asf unfortunately. Rhythmic format is a significant part of her radio support throughout her career as well. They always support her singles in that genre, but her singles from the ES era besides TBIM (peaked #2 there) have been pop singles so Ariana really only has pop radio to carry her singles. Her team never put the effort into pushing her on Hot AC and they really should invest in that format because its friendlier to veteran pop stars that have been around. Also Scooter prioritized pushing singles on radio and ES era was the first without him. I don't give that man credit for much but he knew what he was doing with radio. Edited March 30 by Tm4074 5
shark_heather Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Guys just chill I dont think she cares so much for a smash or smth This is more of a gift to the fans , just enjoy it 1
velocity Posted March 30 Posted March 30 all the new songs are sooo good but twilight zone and hampstead are something truly special 1
mxoonlight Posted March 30 Posted March 30 She outright already told y'all through her manager's interview last year that she intentionally is not playing in the rat race because she has outgrown it and y'all are still talking about the radio deal, the standalone video and the playlisting. Your brains? Worms. What should you do? Stream warm. Now. 10
MaxMartin Posted March 30 Posted March 30 praying for TZ to go mega viral on tik tok so that it explodes on Spotify and forces radio to play it whether they like it or not
Tm4074 Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Watching reactions to the deluxe and I noticed a few mentioning Ariana taking influence from Sabrina with the sexual innuendo on dandelion and the use meta references in her lyrics. I couldn't believe they were being serious with that take. Flip it around and that's more like it. Before Short n' Sweet there was Love Me Harder, Side to Side, 34+35, Dangerous Woman, Everyday, God is a woman, positions, etc. The album tracks is an even longer list lol. thank u, next song is literally one big meta reference - directly names her exes, "her name is Ari and I'm so good with that", "god forbid something happens at least this song is a smash". Like what rock were they living under this past decade lmao. 5 1 1
Zerby Posted March 30 Posted March 30 TZ and Dandelion are on constant repeat. How this album was snubbed at the Grammys ill never know. WCBF or at least a pop category like come on 1
genio Posted March 30 Posted March 30 (edited) I think the main purpose chart wise should just be to make the album re-peak inside the top 3. A third week at #1 would be amazing and ES would become her longest running number one album, but it's fine either way. A #1 single was unrealistic from the get-go. This is not the same situation as a lead single release, where they pull out all the stops. The era was a smash, whether they like it or not and nothing will change that. The deluxe only solidifies this. Edited March 30 by genio 2 4

duybeeGAshantiGA Posted March 30 Posted March 30 (edited) This is stupid. I have never seen such powerful and likeable star getting this type of sabotage from the music industry like this before. I mean it's hard to fathom why because she is loved by the GP and the fans everywhere. It's not like she is not successful commercially but the music industry itself seems like it is doing everything to make her not successful. Usually it's the other way around, they always try to push people who are dislikable by the GP and shove their songs down our throats. Now they have a perfect popstar, who is mega successful, pretty and tremendously talented with one of the best voices ever but they want to see her fail. IDK it feels like something changed during Sweetener/Positions era. It's like she pissed some huge music executives during that time. Eternal Sunshine was mostly fan-driven without real support from the music industry. At least the GP and the fans will always try to save her from time to time and she always prevails somehow. Gerardo Posted March 30 Posted March 30 its doing much better than I expected its tracks are going to reach new peak positions on their third day on AM WW My only problem is "twilight zone" not having a proper push on radio and it not being top 5 on TTH (it also lacks playlisting on some places like the UK and Australia) but I agree that it's herself who doesn't really care and probably extends that feeling towards her team 2
qurl Posted March 30 Posted March 30 i wish i could unshackle so many of yall from the prison of chart/stat obsession … shes over a decade into her career and still breaking records and still having great chart success … it's nothing to meltdown about that a single from a deluxe edition of a year old album isn't gonna debut at #1 or maybe be a top 10 or have a radio deal immediately after its release. the music is so much more enjoyable when you think of it as a love letter to you, the fans. she already has a legacy, and what's more she has the undeniable talent to hold it up forever ! 2 6
