Closer isn't an Uptown Funk. UF is the song of the millennium. But Closer could be the song of the millennium on Top 40, where it well surpassed UF.

 

As for Closer v. UF, crossing over to 11 formats is far more impressive than just the Pop Quadrant, Dance, and Spanish. UF had all of the above, plus Urban, UAC, AAA, and Jazz. Also, UF topped at least four formats -- Top 40, HAC, Rhythmic, and Urban AC. UF went Top 5 on AC and Top 10 on Urban.

 

Closer topped Top 40 and HAC (and Dance), but stalled at #2 on Rhythmic and has yet to reach the Top Ten on AC. That being said, I'm somewhat surprised Alternative completely ignored Closer.

They are sending COTH to Alternative and AAA. His label is working each song to different genres. They aren't completely ignoring COTH.

Bad & Boujee has the next two weeks on lock imo. After that, it could either remain #1 or be displaced again by either "Shape Of You" or "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" (with the release of the Fifty Shades Darker movie)
