This is annoying bc I was looking forward to seeing Zoe Saldana sing El Mal :/

 

Im sure Selena did not want to perform live and that factors into this as well 

 

The other performers would likely have been Marren Morris, HER, maybe NIN…. this is very tired imo they all are good performers

Wouldn't be the first time that non-nominees perform at the Oscars. Gaga did the Sound of Music medley, we get in memorial performers. We got massive performances last year and even the year before with Encanto where they did We Don't Talk About Bruno (which wasn't even nominated). Maybe they'll have a Wicked performance?

Wasn't there already an instance where they wanted to get rid off all musical performances? (I think it was the year Gaga performed shallow) But because of the backlash they changed it back immediatly, so yeah I don't think they will remove the performances altogether.

 

Lets hope that they just mean not every nominee has to perform their song. But tbh I don't know if I would like even this change cause it was always something special to see lesser known artists or even actors perform infront of such a huge audience. But there could also be positives like a wicked medley for example (I kinda wanted that for Barbie last year )

if that's true this would be a horrible change. Also aren't some of the most memorable things about the oscars literally the performances?! Just think about WWIMF or Just Ken last year or Shallow, Skyfall etc.

I can't think of any ceremony that performed non-original, non-nominated songs from movies in competition. The closest comparison I can think of is Bruno. 
 

I have a hard time seeing them devote 5+ minutes to sing Defying Gravity. Like, why? It would be so awkward. Maybe part of a medley?

From the way it's written, feels like they will show us documentary instead of live performances period. If this is one time thing, I wonder if this is caused by LA fires? A few stars already being vocal for Oscars and Grammy to cancel the show this year in light of the fires. Maybe this is how the academy compromised? Live performances probably making show too jolly for them??
