With this logic poker case is a bigger classic than

1. Respect by Aretha Franklin

2. Thriller by Michael Jackson

3. Purple rain by prince

4. Lady Marmalade(the original)

You see where I'm going with this?

See my previous comment.

Different generations of people grew up these songs. Those generations don't consume music by streaming, not to be shady but good number of people from those generations are dead or have hearing problem.

2003 and 2008 basically cover same generation of people. People from 2003 sure know how to create spotify account and stream music.

Both great songs, but CiL is annoying today whereas Poker Face stood the test of time :jonny5:

poker face was inescapable. both iconic but it's not close

I remember CIL had a crazy big resurgence among normies when it was used in Fifty Shades soundtrack in 2010s, so I'm inclined to pick it over PF as a "bigger classic".

but if PF gets a moment like that in the future, it's game over for CIL.

as a song I still prefer CIL :chick1:

The first 15 seconds of Crazy In Love are easily one of the most recognizable melodies in modern music but I prefer Poker Face the song and the video

i prefer Crazy In Love but i think Poker Face is more iconic.

Poker Face for better song and video. CIL feels like the bigger classic for now, but PF keeps growing and is doing much better on every metric, besides being more global. It will probably overtake CIL in a few years.

According to this, Poker Face is a bigger classic than:

or this

Not everything is about numbers. So ye, the best song of XXI century aka CIL is a bigger classic than Poker Face.

Crazy in Love was released in 2003; digital sales didn't exist, piracy was king and CDs sold in minute copies and were often deleted after a few weeks of sale so people would buy the album.

Comparing the dying physical market with the burgeoning digital market is illogical. The 100th best selling song of 2009 in the UK would have been the 29th best selling track of 2003; they're incomparable markets.

Early 00s tracks stream worse than later 00s ones and ofc Poker Face has better YT numbers; it was released when the platform existed dddddd. For CIL to be doing similar numbers to PF is beyond impressive.

Beyoncé's track feels bigger to me. Iconic music video, massive numbers, never feels to set a dance floor on fire. But it's minute and highly subjective; both tracks were absolutely massive and I can totally accept anyone's reasoning for Gaga's track being bigger as well.

Although I do agree with you guys about sales from the digital era having an advantage, the easiest way to define which one was at least initially bigger is by weekly charts because they are 1:1 in terms of relativity.

Poker Face at its peak went to #1 in over 20 markets worldwide while CIL went #1 in three markets. In terms of year-end charts PF went #1 in seven markets while CIL has zero year-end #1s. Adding the recurrent streams into the mix since they're as far apart from each other as Billie Jean and Where Do Broken Hearts Go, it's completely fair to assume Poker Face might be the bigger hit.

That Crazy In Love video is just *chef's kiss*. The strut, her hair flowing in slow motion, the leg move, the hydrant wet scenes, the choreography at the end. So much star quality and on a level we haven't seen in anyone since. Much less lady ga ga bfr :rip:

Well PF charted longer in 2009 than CIL did in 2003 because of their release windows. PF began its chart run in January 2009 while CIL's didn't begin until May 2003 — of course it was going to more difficult for CIL to receive #1 YECs since it was missing nearly a half of a year of charting activity.

Fair point. But PF still managed to destroy its competition in over 20 countries while CIL didn't cause as big of an impact on its competition.

CIL quite clearly. PF was a smash but if we're talking about classics then let's not lie here i mean the CIL intro alone….poor ga

The Hive saying we have to ignore sales and streams. :skull: Fine, then let's look at how each actually charted.

I'm not sure how much more proof the Hive needs, but the answer is glaringly obvious: they're both career defining smashes, but Poker Face is still notably bigger.
