Half of Katy's discography are bombs. Surprised?

I was reflecting on the career of Ms. Perry, the #25th Best Pop Star of the 21st Century according to Billboard. Though she is a flop today, I realized that of six studio albums, only three (50%) are successful (the last of which was released in 2013). The three since, are big flops! (Yes, Witness hit #1 but it was not a success.)

Are you surprised that one of the biggest pop stars of our time has a discography where 50% of it is a flop? Are there any other boatmates of hers with this ratio of flops:hits in their discographies?  :penguin:

EDIT: forgot that PRISM came out in 2013, not 2012.

Are you surprised

No. Teenage Dream singles were a picture-perfect playlist. The rest of the album--like her discography--fails to make a significant splash.

Not really but there are other girls out there with more flop studio albums than hit studio albums

She's been over for more than half her career literally. Mind you her first album really wasn't even that big. Flash in the pan tbh

Definitely. Christina Aguilera has way more flop albums. By the way if you combine the daily streams of all of her studio albums (except her debut one) it's still not reaching 1M streams.

Katy has been flopping for some time sure but yeah, there are much bigger flops than her. Her peak was high.

Sabrina has more flop albums i think?

She's like Christina in my opinion and failed to evolve and used the same old producers or trending ones. She is also a woman over 40 now and lets be honest we all know how that goes for the majority of pop gals

Half of Gaga's too she's not that special :suburban:

I'd say Katy's got more flops than bombs tbh. Some of her flops will eventually get certified thanks to streaming. She could've ended up as our Xtina but Gaga did instead.

I think she'll live just fine off he money she continues to make from OOTB - TD and the moderate Witness hits.

Also here comes that one Britney stan talking about Xtina for literally no reason :bibliahh: The obsession is...  She is on his mind "3-6-5, all the time" as Mrs. Perry would say.

I still remember when Thinking Of You was her biggest flop (and it only was a underperformance). It looks like a smash now compared to everything she put out this decade :toofunny2:

Her discography aged infinitely better than Lady Gaga. Even if 143 (and half of Smil) is absolute unlistenable garbage.

Oops you're right, corrected! Maybe Jaime Leegend Curtis should use her connections and lobby the Recording Academy to get Katy a Grammy :eli:

Which albums are these?

I'll give you Artpop (but even that had at least one successful single), but Joanne and Chromatica are certainly not flops. Each had at least two top 20s, something Katy hasn't had since 2013. Chromatica even had two top 5s!

It sucks bc with each succeeding flop she is further and further reached from having a hit comeback again.

Hopefully she can score a hit collab or feature like Xtina did during the 2010's to maintain her relevance.

So you're saying that half of Katy's discography tanked and bombed…And despite all that, Katy is still overall a bigger artist (with an objectively more successful discography) than Lady Gaga in the US, according to Billboard's Top Artists of the 21st Century chart

This makes me wonder what's the % of bombs in Gaga's discography…🤔
