hallucinate Posted Saturday at 11:23 PM Posted Saturday at 11:23 PM this was already discussed several times on this site already but it's crazy that his upcoming album is not making any noise out of all the singles he released, timeless did the best (and still doing well) but still it wasn't able to create hype for the album now obviously the weeknd is one of the biggest acts in the world atm so even his "flops" won't be too bad but the question remains, do you think the album will flop by his standarts? inb4 he smashes and this thread backfires OT: são paulo is fantastic, hoping the album sounds more like that
Johnny Jacobs Posted Saturday at 11:26 PM Posted Saturday at 11:26 PM The weeknd fell kinda hard in the last couple of years. unless he would provide undeniable bangers, it will underperform 1 1
HeavyMetalAura Posted Saturday at 11:27 PM Posted Saturday at 11:27 PM (edited) I think he's got enough of a fanbase and general public interest that he can surprise us and pull like 250k first week, maybe even 300k, despite the singles flopping. But, I could be wrong too. The rollout has not been great. edit: I just realized Dawn FM only pulled 148k so never mind, I must be overestimating his fanbase Edited Saturday at 11:28 PM by HeavyMetalAura 1
Riverbank Posted Saturday at 11:28 PM Posted Saturday at 11:28 PM Idk it's looking like another Dawn FM situation sadly
MatiRod Posted Saturday at 11:30 PM Posted Saturday at 11:30 PM He will do fine. But "Dancing in the Flames" flopping is really shocking to me. It's a great pop song and the main instrumental riff throughout screams hit single. I can see why the label put it out first. It flopping means the 80s-influenced synth-pop trend is over thank God I already released all my 80s synth-pop tracks 2
Trent W Posted Saturday at 11:31 PM Posted Saturday at 11:31 PM Yeah definitely around 160k first week ala Dawn FM I think After Hours was his peak 5 years ago and it's impossible to go back now
Oktober Knight Posted Saturday at 11:31 PM Posted Saturday at 11:31 PM It'll probably have success with a few singles. Either way, the tour will be a massive success so he will win in the end, as much as gAyTRL will have a hard time admitting that. 1
l3disko Posted Saturday at 11:38 PM Posted Saturday at 11:38 PM just goes to show how disposable these popstars are, and how quickly the industry will move on same thing will happen to Sabrina. 2 2 1 3

If that's the case — and assuming he does have them available upon release for this album — that could be the determining factor to how this one debuts in comparison. 2
Popboi. Posted Saturday at 11:40 PM Posted Saturday at 11:40 PM Will have a cute first week, but longevity? No. Unless a big hit comes out of the blue
Erreur2 La Nature Posted Saturday at 11:41 PM Posted Saturday at 11:41 PM He will do fine and can still get solo hits even if he has a few singles failing.
LanaDelRey Posted Saturday at 11:44 PM Posted Saturday at 11:44 PM Didn't know he was releasing a new album until seeing this thread so probably
Iaintsorry Posted Saturday at 11:49 PM Posted Saturday at 11:49 PM He's smart for releasing so early in the year so he can still land a #1 album even with abysmal first week sales. He'll likely do similar to Dawn FM or maybe a bit more
Mordecai Posted Saturday at 11:50 PM Posted Saturday at 11:50 PM After Hours seems to have cannibalised any of his follow up success, though Popular was a hit with amazing longevity. The male Prism 3
Punky Rooster Posted Saturday at 11:50 PM Posted Saturday at 11:50 PM He has never sold many albums in the US, I mean After Hours only did approx 600k in sales, so that's his goal.
TOKYO. Posted Saturday at 11:57 PM Posted Saturday at 11:57 PM it depends; is there an ariana featured song? 2 5 1

MonsterNavy Posted yesterday at 12:03 AM Posted yesterday at 12:03 AM it will debut with okay numbers, do normal numbers on the daily but will still end up with like 8-10M streams in the end. the weeknd is all about longevity. I just noticed the other day that timeless already has 400M streams 1
Pavement Princess Posted yesterday at 12:03 AM Posted yesterday at 12:03 AM Sao Paulo is a hit in my household and constantly on my TT feed. 1
HarajukuPrincess Posted yesterday at 12:04 AM Posted yesterday at 12:04 AM Yo what happened to The Weeknd? He used to smash so hard. Was it the songs that started sounding the same? Was it the Idol? Was it the bickering with people on social media?
dumbsparce Posted yesterday at 12:10 AM Posted yesterday at 12:10 AM All signs lead to a flop, unfortunately. Unless a track blows up on release he'll have to rely on his fanbase which is big enough to secure him a not-so-disasterous debut and a cute #2 peak.
mxoonlight Posted yesterday at 12:12 AM Posted yesterday at 12:12 AM No, I think playlisting will inflate its performance. He's losing cultural cache, but they've found ways to program his music so that it still performs to perfunctory standards.
Pluto6 Posted yesterday at 12:17 AM Posted yesterday at 12:17 AM (edited) He's literally still pulling 40M daily streams, he's far from over. It's kinda impossible for a streaming giant like him to flop. Edited yesterday at 12:18 AM by Pluto6
sugarysunflower Posted yesterday at 12:17 AM Posted yesterday at 12:17 AM (edited) Where's the promo been? haven't seen anything on Spotify to pre-save, no billboard advertisements, no YouTube or tv ads, no tv, radio or magazine interviews, no physical appearances…….. don't be arrogant by just dropping and then expect your project to smash. Even the top girlies come out of hiding to generate buzz and intruige a la Adele, Taylor, Beyoncé. has it been this dead or has there been any presence of him? Edited yesterday at 12:18 AM by sugarysunflower
ontherocks Posted yesterday at 12:18 AM Posted yesterday at 12:18 AM I'm not really following his career too much, I always thought that his fanbase was very dedicated. But since his material got more and more commercial, idk if that bond with his fanbase is still strong
