I don't have one...? :rip:

I guess the closest thing is that, unlike Jeremy Corbyn or my fellow Portuguese leftists, I don't support abolishing nuclear weapons. New arms reduction treaties? Absolutely. We need a START IV and a return to détente.

But I don't think we can ever put the nuclear genie back in the bottle, nor should we. In fact, I can think of a couple of countries who should get nukes (Poland and Iran ).

I'm as leftist as they come but I am sympathetic to conservatives who critique inefficient use of public funds.

I'm in agreement that we need strong border security and should limit immigration. And that the libertarian view of a "merit based" immigration system is the best way to go.

Other than that……..

Spoiler

Fracking isn't an inherently evil concept and a lot of the people (even on this website) who railed against Biden's "drill baby drill" comments and lease openings are naive to the alternatives. Putting aside drilled oil and natural gas as an input into literally hundreds of thousands of manufactured products (all of which would obviously be made significantly more expensive without cheap access to one of their baseline components), an artificial shortage by restricting gas and oil supply would have several degrees of knock-on effects that are worth avoiding

The obvious is that electric cars still make up an absolute minority of the US private vehicle fleet, making up ~7% in 2024, after decades of innovation and subsidization (with an average price north of $50k). They're astronomically expensive, don't last especially long, and are like 0.2% of the current used car offerings (and even there are either expensive or terrible prototypes with golf cart ranges). Electric buses make up ~3% of the national fleet, and there are functionally zero electric school buses. Basically every single truck and freight train in the US runs on diesel, as do (obviously) all flights on jet fuel. Thus, with the exceptions of things moved by pipeline (like oil itself ddd), every single good and the overwhelming majority of humans who move around the country require some form of refined oil to do so. By choosing more expensive non-fracked domestic sources (usually overwater in the gulf and in Alaska), or choosing to import more expensive oil from abroad, or choosing to artificially limit the supply altogether, the direct outcome would be an increase in the cost of literally everything by at least an order of magnitude, probably several. At the same time, with a several-dollar-per-gallon spike in fuel prices because of inelasticity and a reduction in bus services (it's not like public transport is particularly profitable as it is), such an action would basically singlehandedly push basically everyone in the lower class out of the workforce if they can't walk or bike to work. That's not even to mention that we've yet to invent an electric tractor or harvester or cultivator or plow (and that fracked natural gas is a significant input into fertilizers), so you're just making food like twenty times more expensive at the same time, if it even gets grown or collected at all :deadbanana4:

I understand that the optics are bad and that we should be moving away from fracked oil and gas because it's really not sustainable at this rate and is obviously bad for the environment (and, for the record, we are), but bitching about two-year leases and "drill baby drill" (as a strategy to reduce inflation and keep production levels consistent) is not the progressive serve that some people think it is :gaycat4:

Being non-binary is real but a lot of boring yt people like to call themselves non-binary because they wanna be interesting/wanna victimize themselves somehow.
Like calling yourself non-binary but also being like "I'm not queer tho" like...uhhh okay?

I mean... does your solution involve providing housing and income and child care to those poor people? Cause otherwise... yeah it would come across as classism and eugenics.

My secret right wing opinion is that I don't blindly support all the leftist talking points and we should be open to question them, openly condeming someone because they question a portion of an entire movement will only make more people lean to the right in the end.

Honestly cackling at this, because what do you mean you're not sure, when this is by far the most right-wing opinion in this thread :toofunny3:
