BrentB Posted Thursday at 06:43 PM Posted Thursday at 06:43 PM I'm not a Monster, but the original BR Demo was on heavy rotation on my MP3. I was actually a bit disappointed when the actual version came out. I like the darker vibe of the Demo & the added vocals on single version throws me out of that vibe tbh. Our local Breakfast Television show used to run BR's MV scenes to the ground though. Glee's cover was also pretty iconic too. Gaga herself kinda had an insiduous "no-go" vibe to me due to the height of the "Popstar illuminati" craze back in 2009-2010 & me being brought up in a heavily-religious environment did NOT help with this . She was the embodiment of everything that I was taught to stand against & her being the first Gen-Y pop star to validate my "sin" was definitely triggering, to say the least.

This definitely has history rewritten to make it appear as if it was the biggest song of the century. More people spoke about the meat dress, egg, and telephone video. Fleahive Honey... no. Sorry. Telephone video was big but Bad Romance big? Not even close. 1
blaggot Posted Thursday at 06:54 PM Posted Thursday at 06:54 PM the term "cultural phenomenon" gets overused a lot these days but the release of BR truly was the definition that dark dance beat and chanting hook was like… high brow pop music at it's finest like I can't even explain 5

I didn't make that comment to group project Beyoncé. Most hive could care less about that song or Beyoncés irrelevant part in the video. I give all credit to mother monster for the way it ECLIPSED Bad Romance video. Let's not rewrite history now! Bad Romance is gen z's gworl but at the time THE lady Gaga video was telephone. Argue with ya mama!

Reverse Warholian Posted Friday at 02:26 AM Posted Friday at 02:26 AM (edited) The initial reception maybe for the first couple weeks of release was mixed-positive. Stans of The Fame and pop culture enthusiasts alike had expected it to sound a bit more like the leaked demo and were slightly unsure about the harsher vocal delivery and darker production. However, they quickly adapted to this fresh iteration of Gaga's style especially once its music video premiered and some incredible performances and looks followed, eliminating any doubts about the song and solidifying its status as one of THEE best pop songs of the millennium. Then The Fame Monster dropped and took the world by storm. Rest is herstory. Edited Friday at 02:27 AM by Reverse Warholian 1
James_Joint Posted Friday at 02:44 AM Posted Friday at 02:44 AM It was my first year in college when it came out. It was a viral moment in the form of a music video, before "viral" moments like that were a common thing, especially for a music video. With MTV no longer being a go-to source to watch music videos and YouTube being on the rise for just that, I would say the Bad Romance video single handily brought back interest in music videos, at the time. It truly showed how a music video can still break ground in the internet era. 3
Alldeezy Posted Friday at 02:46 AM Posted Friday at 02:46 AM I didn't care for it at first but I did love the music video it dropped during final year of high school so I just remember it from that. 1

rebeltwat Posted Friday at 03:37 AM Posted Friday at 03:37 AM Stanning Gaga for TF and TFM was genuinely a once in a lifetime experience. BTW was incredible too but to a slightly lesser degree because she really had the entire world in the palm of her hand up until the BTW single 1
Infernal Paradise Posted Friday at 04:02 AM Posted Friday at 04:02 AM YouTube looked something like this 1
IBeMe Posted Friday at 04:09 AM Posted Friday at 04:09 AM I was young AF too but a little older and I remember being SCARED AF about the music video and hating the loud beat in the song BUT i knew it was huge because EVERYONE was talking about it and saying the music video was the most like futuristic video ever seen. I mean just the big eyes scene was major trend. The first makeup youtubers were doing big eye makeup to make their eyes look big because of the song's mv. It was insane. I also remember being in the school bus and thinking Just Dance & Poker Face were the same song until I heard someone referring to their titles as separate songs..... 1

I got into her because I heard her music a lot growing up, and my millennial sister eventually introduced me to her. I know 5-6 other people in my age group who are fans of her or had her in their Wrapped so 😅
frankvert Posted Friday at 05:44 AM Posted Friday at 05:44 AM Gaga was already everywhere; her art, music, and imagery were all being discussed regularly by media and normies alike. But BR hit Earth like a comet like for real. In less than 12 months of WW superstardom, Gaga was being compared to greats like MJ and Madonna for channeling their musical & visual innovations from the MTV era for the Great Recession age. It's the song & MV which really galvanized all of what Gaga was trying to say as an artist and catapulted her to the A++ list. I was only 9 at the time but knew back then that Gaga was doing something special. That what I was witnessing was a once in a lifetime pop culture phenomenon. Now going on 16 years later, turns out time (the ultimate truth teller) was truly on my side. 1
NOW Posted Friday at 06:05 AM Posted Friday at 06:05 AM "It's the reason I chose her in December as one of the most fascinating people of 2009. And in the month since then, she has managed to soar even higher."
Joaco95 Posted Friday at 06:21 PM Posted Friday at 06:21 PM everyone was using the leaked demo even when the single was released
Trent W Posted Friday at 06:24 PM Posted Friday at 06:24 PM (edited) I remember thinking it sounded like poker face but a lot better It was a moment! I was basically a teen and the feelings I had playing it each day ❤️ One of the best pop records of all time Edited Friday at 06:25 PM by Trent W 1

Aqua Posted yesterday at 12:49 AM Posted yesterday at 12:49 AM Thanks for making me feel old I was almost 14 when it came out OT: I was a huge fan during The Fame era but Bad Romance elevated her to an even higher stratosphere. From the song, to the video, to the art direction, it truly was the perfect storm. 1
