Bringing YouTube Music Awards... An award show that was so badly organized and such a flop that it only happened ONCE and revamped it for a second edition and it was worse so they completely abandoned the project. Like... :deadbanana4:

Remember when BTS literally declared themselves the McDonald's of music? It was kinda an inspired move because their fans all look the part :sistrens:

And SONES are forgetting one thing, back in the day it was so rare for Kpop acts to be nominated so they had the whole Kpop community voting for them, just like BIGBANG had all their antis voting for them at EMA.

That still more than aespa's most streamed song though :sabrina:

As of March 8th, 2025, which is 1,572 days into Aespa's career:

Next Level - 1,319,939,783

Drama - 961,952,927

Supernova - 770,412,700

Whiplash - 542,626,869

As of April 6th, 2025, which is 2,713 days into SKZ's career:

God's Menu - 1,097,111,959

Spotify - 419,111,959

YTM - 638M

Melon - ?
Genie - ?

Since God's Menu didn't chart, I couldn't find its Melon and Genie numbers, but their peak right now for a charting song is "No Easy" with 25,877,580 Melon streams and 9,018,030 Genie streams. Assuming God's Menu has been more successful (which is unlikely since it never charted), it couldn't possibly have done more than 40M streams combined across Melon and Genie. But would love to see the actual numbers if you have them.

Either way, Next Level has outstreamed every SKZ song ever and Drama is on its way, too :fan:

You guys are letting nostalgia get to you, cause how can you downplay SKZ or TWICE's numbers in the West and at the same time trying to make SNSD happen over there :rip: THE DELUSION

"Make SNSD happen over there" *****, where would your faves be without official album distribution here in the West? Like, use some critical thinking.

We witnessed the rise of bulk buying and spotify fraud so we're good at detecting it. Please stop setting up legends TWICE by putting them next to a group that literally nobody has ever heard of.  :cm:

And speak on it. It's nice to see Spotify finally fighting back somewhat, though.

Meanwhile on planet earth, aespa has much better longevity on every relevant western chart both with albums and singles than your favs.

And that's why their streaming is miles ahead of SKZ's at the same point in their careers.

Yeah I think there might be different definitions of the word organic at play here. SNSD's small western popularity was built up 100% by fan groups and piracy. There was not a nickel being invested into making them happen here until they were already able to book arenas.

Every group since then has had funds pouring in from the label to build their fanbase outside of Asia. Nobody ever claimed that there are more American sone than American blinks. The sones weren't created by a billion dollar music marketing machine though.

I think newgen fans might think organic just means no bulk albums and no stream farms(which it's true 2nd gen didn't really have these), but there's a whole layer of marketing and general content distribution that didn't exist for SNSD. Kpop MVs would get posted months later if at all on YouTube, music shows weren't available, variety content wasn't available, even just basic news was full of hearsay and flawed translations. SNSD was so popular that stable channels for all of these things to become available quickly and professionally sprung up around them during 2nd gen. That's what is meant by organic. These days a group already has western fans before they even debut, we found out about OSTs the biggest idols months after the fact.

Thank you. Nobody's arguing that stats haven't grown significantly for all acts as infrastructure grew and I'm glad you caught on to that. But that's how stats work in every field.

My original point was just that SM was willing to throw away a top girl group at the peak of their career with untapped potential because they're a shitty label.

Though I've already deleted Kiss of Life and awaiting their return to nugudom, part of me is still hoping the Pinks address the leaks because trying to sweep it under the rug just ain't sitting right with me.

Even if it was 2014 they were all still 17-18 and old enough to know how to use Google and look up that word and just not saying while singing?. I know they won't be cancelled as a whole but if they don't say a word by the time Coachella is over I'll be secretly praying for the next tour to be a hotter mess than Born Pink.

Probably Lion Heart and Paparazzi.

You Think is a hot mess tbh, it looks so cheap. I'm actually glad they reshot Lion Heart MV cause the original one looked cheap as well.

Without SNSD, many groups wouldn't even exist. JYP literally admitted that he wanted his own "SNSD"

The most hyped K-pop era ever. I've never witnessed anything quite like it and the teasing was crazy. Nobody knew what to think and it ended up being gag after gag.

Also, I adore the Girls' Generation, Way To Go, Oh!, Hoot, Paparazzi, Forever 1 and RDR videos.
