HarajukuPrincess Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 (edited) I still like Taylor, but her betraying Olivia (especially the way she knowingly went about it) really soured her for me; no pun intended. Also the pettiness of knowingly blocking Billie from #1 on the Billboard 200. Edited December 30, 2024 by HarajukuPrincess 12 2 3

That's no ground for anything. All artists are influenced. Most songs take inspiration from a song or an artist before. That does not warrant a credit. It's like saying all Folklore/Evermore + Midnights' songs should have Lana Del Rey credited with 50% because Taylor herself acknowledges her influence on those records. The whole Olivia's credits' situation is a sad consequence of Marvin Gaye's estate's greed and it's just a bunch of veterans bullying and stealing from a new comer. Sometimes you don't know you're copying something until the internet points it out. Funny, because the internet also pointed out "brutal" 's riff was similar to that of "Pump It Up" by Elvis Costello. In fact, it even caught the attention of Elvis himself on Twitter - and this is what he had to say about it: This already disproves the theory that Olivia and her team went out of their way to get credits for the songs they were accused of copying regardless of pressure from the other party. What's more, Olivia's father has made his stance on the matter quite clear through some retweets during 2021-22, hinting at what happened behind the scenes with Paramore and Swift's teams. Personally, I think it's quite telling that Olivia went from a very enthusiastic Swiftie to someone who completely stopped bringing her up in interviews and social media, didn't attend the "Eras Tour", and whenever questioned about any conflict answered with very neutral PR responses. Then there's "the grudge". It's not even about the royalties themselves, since the widespread coverage of her 'copying' "Cruel Summer" and "Misery Business" led to her artistry and songwriting being discredited, with increasing criticism of her being 'unoriginal' and 'ripping off' others even though several artists, including Swift herself, have done the same. And after spending the "Lover" era talking about how brutal the industry can be to female artists, how they're built up to be torn apart afterwards, Taylor was quite hypocritical for not standing up to defend Olivia (a longtime fan of hers!), even if she felt receiving the writing credits was fair from a justice standpoint. 1 14

Blame Pharrell Williams v. Bridgeport Music for that! Honestly I still think Geffen just handed over those credits to cover their asses and safeguard a just debuting artist's career, if you remember the G4U/MizBiz allegations were everywhere at the time 1
Polgg48 Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 main current targets for the torture poet songstress now is charli and billie with ariana on long sight, chappell need to prove her success on her new album first whereas chappell is like a... viral tiktok status atm and everyone knows it. plus swifties arent streaming chappell music as much as olivia who actually swifties fav too that's why taylor pressed so hard. until then... 2 1 1

HeavyMetalAura Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 From what I've heard, Taylor's albums aren't getting as many streams as SOUR, so maybe Taylor was struggling financially and wanted to benefit from an up-and-coming artist's streams. The Deja Vu royalties were likely enough to sustain her so she didn't need to do the same to Chappel. 3 2 2
By the Water Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Chappell didn't openly admit to copying Taylor without giving her credit 8
