Would Die With A Smile still be a success with another female vocalist?

the song went viral and became this big of a smash hit because of Gaga's dance and cigarettes during the instrumental bridge and rest is history.

So we could never tell.

Its all about chemistry just like Shallow ft Bradley Cooper, would it become even bigger if it was someone else?

You can never really answer some questions.

Just like shallow, one of the biggest and most acclaimed songs of the last decade, DWAS is what it is because of THE Lady Gaga.

The song requires depth, talent, and intrigue that Gaga possesses in droves! Not everyone has that! :)Hope this helps!

Rihanna has never released a song bigger than DWAS

DWAS is a smash hit but lets not…. Rihanna has hits way bigger than DWAS. :rip:

Other than Gaga I would say only Adele's voice would sound good.

Depends.

Katy Perry? No. Kesha? No.

Ofc if the collab would be with another very succesful artist like Gaga it would also be a hit, although it would probably sound more poppy and for mainstream radio. As per Gaga, she was the one that made it Carole King-ish and 70s and created the entire aesthetix, which I think it's the two reasons the song is a hit.

Another female backing singer? It would make 0 difference.

The viral audio that everybody use of this song is Bruno's first chorus, that he sings entirely ALONE.

Heard the song on Radio 1 the other day, and the presenter at the end said "Love this Bruno Mars song", and no mention at all of the backing singer. :santa:

So yes, any other female artist would work and would still be a hit, because it's a Bruno song.

And yet you know it as a Gaga song since a heavy majority of your most recent posts are all related to Die With A Smile. I doubt you would be having so much of a visceral reaction to the song if Gaga was not on it.

You wouldn't be checking for this song at all if not for Gaga. She is what keeps you coming back to check every thread, every receipt, every word that comes out of a Radio 1 presenters mouth.

I could see someone like an Adele working well on this track. Singers with more breathy tones or weaker singing would probably not work well.

I wonder if Dua Lipa could smash with a song like this.

Rihanna? But who would sing Gaga's high notes

Easy

Whoever recorded the demo track for her

Probably with Ariana or Adele but I can't imagine anyone else on the track.

Gaga co-wrote the song though so her contributions to its success transcend her amazing vocal contributions.

Even then, her creative choices for phrasing and harmonies through the second half of the song are distinct and help keep the song interesting for the entire 4:13 run.

Also, she is incredible when singing this live. She nails it

Shallow was big because of Bradley

ROM was because of Ariana

DWAS was big because of Bruno

Imagine how tired everyone is. Meanwhile in the real world no one hears Shallow and thinks it's a Bradley Cooper song.

Maybe with Adele or P!nk it could have smashed hard too, but i think Gaga was the right fit. Her tone kind of makes the song. It wouldn't hit the same with another vocalist!

As a liddo, this is actually a difficult question to answer. The brilliance of Gaga's parts in the song lie in how understated they are, how she has modulated her vocal performance to support and meld with Bruno's rather than carving out her own space in the duet.

To me it barely even sounds like a Gaga song. The focus is 80% on Bruno's vocals, and Gaga's parts are sung and mixed to keep that focus rather than distract from it. I think we can all imagine a version of the song where Gaga was using her full, nasal, over-articulated "ballad" voice to steal the show and it probably would have ended up a disaster :rip: Instead, if you look at what we actually got you can hear that Gaga's belts have been incorporated into the second chorus but at like 20% volume to add subtle texture and flair, widening Bruno's vocal but not adding anything that would grate or risk becoming unpleasant.

So how essential can you say an artist is to a song which bears so little of her signature on its blueprint? From one perspective, you could argue that she's easily replaceable since her touches were minor and directed at refining what was already there or finding subtle ways to enhance it. But from another perspective, I'd argue that it takes a skilled musician to understand what a song really needs to bring out the best version of itself, and in this case Gaga was dead on the bullseye — whereas another artist could easily have misjudged it.

It was probably the engineers that turned her down though !

I'll actually give this one to Gaga, for the most part/to her credit. Thanks to her career revitalization from Artpop to Joanne/C2C/ASIB, Soccer Mom ballad Gaga is pretty much what everyone comes to expect from her.

"Could feel bigger" :rip: what exactly doesn't feel big about DWAS :toofunny3:

Ive never heard it in real life. it is being driven by spotify streams which really dont spill over into real life.

Very different situation from Shallow, which was everywhere.

I think Bruno was perfect for the song. If not him then definitely an old school R&B singer would've been the best fit like Alicia Keys or Chris Brown.
