Elon is SO stupid for taking this bait. I have no issue with H1Bs with respect to my own employment but who is fooling that this is meant to "bring in the best talent in the world". They are basically locked into employment and treated as indentured servants because they have much less mobility. It's like when Chris Ruffo or some of the more fringe anti-LGBTQ people say some crazy **** like wanting to go after who normie voters consider to be normie gay people or like that one MAGA lady who tried using the f-slur as a campaign strategy. It misreads the social conservatism as the lifeblood of the MAGA moment and forgets how fragile of an unholy alliance it is without the fake veneer of populism. 

 

Elon & Vivek misread the influence given to Big Tech and the cheers Elon got for essentially buying Trump the election as some favor amongst the average reactionary MAGA voter for his techno-libertarianism when the image-of-self Trump sells to his followers is much different. 

 

MAGA voters want nativism (how some actors have sold them on 'return to tradition' conservatism as needed for the old economic days of American wealth), not neo-futurism. They don't want some diverse set of foreign billionaires leading Americans to space colonization. The selling point of trad-Cath homestead fetishism is the claim that it's a vision of success Americans already once had and can return to.

These billionaires will ideologically align with talking lizards if it meet their goals, that's been america forever whoever is in the white house.

 

Maybe they want out cause there's more money on the other side, who knows. Tens of milions lost from a failed transaction is beans to them, clearly they don't care cause they're posting it publicly.

They probably thought that siding with the right on cultural issues and helping get Trump re-elected would give them a free pass to do whatever they wanted with their businesses, especially in regards to immigration. At the end of the day, they're just trying to protect their asses from government oversight and regulation. They were probably worried about what Trump's immigration policy would mean for their bottom line, which is all they really care about. It's no surprise that as soon as it became clear Trump would win again, they all started to get behind him. Now they're realizing that the MAGA base doesn't align with their economic interests. However, Trump will probably continue to look the other way and/or excuse it as long as Musk continues to give him money. Again, none of them actually care about the people who voted for them and Trump doesn't have to worry about re-election this time.   

 

With that said, it's still doomed to fail because of the egos involved.

People sympathizing with MAGA in here and then were angry with Kamala during the campaign trying to court said alienated Republicans, but saying Democrats are missing out NOW by not trying to convert MAGA. Am I missing something here?

 

Like, I'm legitimately confused. I'm not trying to use this as a gotcha, but I don't know how we arrived here. Why are we trying to court scum? We were saying it was pointless 2-3 months ago because they would die before voting Democrat

It was the most predictable thing in the world that the tech bro/MAGA alliance would fracture, but I thought it would be in the first 6 months of the administration, not a month out from Trump taking office. Delicious. A preview of what a disaster this administration will be
