it would make sense now that I think about it  that her fans consistently buying the album contributes to her being on top of the billboard all of the time while the songs from the album aren't remembered by the general public or made much of a cultural splash outside of her enthusiastic fanbase

Buying isn't the only reason she stays on top, you know that. She is the most streamed too, has the biggest tour, has  whole discography charting on album charts.

I mean it's pretty clear which albums are actually consumed by the GP (BRAT, HMHAS, SNS) and which is "the biggest album of the year cause it sold the most copies". If you're not delusional that is

The Tortured Poets Department has less total streams than SnS/HMHAS despite a head start and more tracks.

TTPD sold 7 million+ units just because of fanbase only. (Variants included)
but BRAT album (and its 25 variants) can't move 500k units while having support of whole general public. What kind of delusional take is this?

However you look at this, it's a win for Taylor. 

To be compared to those new artists that are thriving is quite the compliment considering how long she's been here. And ever more with SOUR which was a gigantic era streaming wise. 

 

And even talking streams, the fact than an album as underwhelming, vanilla and colorless as TTPD can amass that staggering amount of streams is proof of her dominance.
