Yeah, for the worst

why do you think pop music is so stifled nowadays and people are always reminiscing about the 80s, 90s and 00s

Have you heard of the concept of nostalgia, this stuff happens every decade :rip:

Then why do the radios never playback 2010s music? You always get the prior decades material, but the truth is most people don't want to listen to most of the mainstream trash of the 10s.

Firstly, this is not true, 10s songs are played all the time, and secondly, it hasn't even been 5 years since the 10s ended, nostalgia doesn't happen like that :rip:

People in 2030s are gonna be posting all about missing music of the 2010s in their bunkers while the world burns around them :ryan3:

Where is Ms Janet during the Control RN and janet eras? Surprised that she didnt clinch top artist for 1990. She had the top album, top 5 hits and the biggest female tour of the year

Her singles were not that big of smashes that fans make them out to be.

Jive focused on album sales, not singles sales, hence why some of her early hit singles didn't have physical releases. Two diamond albums > quick little singles

No Rih or Britney?

Rihanna has singles not albums. Britney had album sales but not single sales domination.

Keep in mind, this also factors in radio payola which would help Rihanna more than Britney but still...

No Britney, Eminem or even Rihanna?

DC being over Britney and Eminem is literally insane

Also One Direction was definitely not the biggest in 2014, Beyonce and Taylor were dominating

Chris Brown for 2 years?

Yeah this list doesn't make sense

I think you all don't get that it's a formula of many things:

Album and Single Sales, possibly ringtone sales, Airplay and I'm not sure touring factored in until recently.

Eminem had album sales and maybe 1-2 big hits but was not overplayed. Britney the same. They only put out physical CDs for one single per era except her debut.

DC over Britney and Eminem makes sense while their album sales were lowered they were played heavily on hip hop, r&b and pop stations. Airplay was and still is a factor.

Chris brown had just enough sales, airplay (when he was on pop as well) overall.

Billboard factors in everything not just sales.

On top of that she didn't engaged in radio payola.

Radio payola was interesting because some of the most played artists didn't sell too well in the late 90s/00s but maybe that's because they could just turn on the radio to hear them and NOW compilations didn't help.

She had single sales for maybe one single per era during her teen pop reign and she was only played on top 40 with minimal rhythmic play for her dance tracks.

If it were female artist she'd win 1999 but Backstreet Boys is the only teen pop act from that era to outsell Britney so..1999 makes sense.
