Also One Direction was definitely not the biggest in 2014, Beyonce and Taylor were dominating

Chris Brown for 2 years?

Yeah this list doesn't make sense

Destiny's Child, Chris Brown had great hot100 and bb200 success. Eminem and Britney only succeeded on the bb200:

DC in 2001

hot100 year end

Independent Women - #10

Survivor - #23

Bootylicious - #42

bb200 year end

survivor - #9

wotw - #87

chris brown was a behemoth between 2006 and 2008….

Chris Brown in 2006

Hot100 year end

Run It - #16

excuse me miss - #44

gimme that - #69

say goodbye - #86

bb200 year end

self titled - #17

Chris Brown in 2008

Hot 100 year end

With You - #9

No Air - #6

Forever - #10

Kiss Kiss - #19

bb200 year end

The Urban shift in the 2000s.

The 2010s still had some variety.

The 2020s list is beyond tragic. :deadbanana4:

LeAnn Rimes in 1997? Surely the Spice Girls dominated that year round? :rip:

They had the biggest album of the year in the US, but LeAnn had the advantage of having three entries in the top 31 albums that year (#6, #21, #31). They had three entries in the year-end Hot 100, but the highest was #10 (others at #28 and #35), whereas LeAnn had the #9. Due to the tracking period, their second album had no major impact on this ranking; however, also due to the tracking period, LeAnn's song was also #5 on the 1998 year end charts, so both artists lost out a little. It's sort of a close battle, but when you consider having three albums do quite well throughout the year, I think it tips the scales in LeAnn's favor in total chart points. The Nielsen/SoundScan tracking period is a little different (a true calendar year), but on that list, the three LeAnn albums totaled to 7.6 million units sold where Spice alone sold 5.3 million. It wasn't a particularly strong year-end album for the 90s.

the 2000's were black as hell until Taylor crashed the industry :lmao:

Rih never snatching this title always blows my mind

It's because Rih's album sales and touring numbers were extremely dire so there was always someone upstaging her in the overall Billboard chart.

Taylor missed by a hair in 2022. It was very close that year.

Topping the overall artist chart in 3 different decade :clap3:

Where is Beyonce? Surprising.

It shouldn't tbh

Rih's main thing was big singles. Pretty sure she was the biggest female artist of 2006 (Per billboard). I'm more shocked Bey never lead alone. both have appeared in the top 10 multiple times I'm sure though. I wish they provided a shortlist of artists for each year but I see why they didn't

Yeah this list doesn't make sense

Britney only really did well with albums and Rihanna only did well with singles

DC over britney & Eminem in 00/01 makes perfect sense. Nothing from Oops I Did It Again, Britney or TMMLP was as big of a chart hit as Bootylicious, Say My Name, Jumpin Jumpin, Independent Women or Survivor, all of which went top 3. Britney and Eminem pretty much only had their albums to carry them. and they missed out on half a year of points

One Direction had a Big album, decent sized singles & a massive tour. Beyonce had a big album and the biggest single from Beyonce ended the year off at 35, vs 24 for 1D's biggest single that year. Bey only had a couple months worth of touring for 2014. I'm sure she was #2 or 3 that year. Taylor's dominance started closer to the end of 2014. Only Shake It Off would've really carried her, no?

Chris Brown had 4 singles on the year end chart in 06 & One of the biggest albums that year. In 08, he had 3 singles in the top 10 of the year end chart + an album in the top 15 for a year

I think this list makes perfect sense kdjfla;dfsd It is based on stats for the year after all

Bey had no chance in 2003-2004 vs 50 Cent and Usher (Usher obliterated absolutely everyone), Sasha splitting between 2008-2009, and also no way to compete with Adele and Drake for 2016. At least she scored twice with DC.

wait how the hell Chris Brown got two years.

I knew he was an IT boy in those years but still doesnt seem that big to snatch two years like that

Surprised Madonna only won once, she seemed to dominate that time period.

She still did really well, just didn't top the list

1984 - #19 (For comparisons, her main competitor Cyndi Lauper was the highest female that year at #11. Tina Turner was at #28)

1985 - #1

1986 - #2

1987 - #2

1989 - #8

1990 - #8

1991 - #10

1992 - #34 :rip:

1993 - #37 :rip:

1994 - #39 :rip:

1995 - #6 (plus was the #1 biggest artist male or female on the Hot 100, talk about a comeback :alexz:)

1996 - #40 (wasn't active this year)

1988 - #14

Bonus:

1988 - #14 on the Billboard 200 female list, despite not releasing a studio album since True Blue in 1986.

1993 - #18 (#4 on the female only) Hot 100 Singles Artist chart, despite the only singles released being Bad Girl and Rain

1994 - #14 (#5 on the female only) Hot 100 Singles Artist chart

Yeah, for the worst

why do you think pop music is so stifled nowadays and people are always reminiscing about the 80s, 90s and 00s

The replies to this :deadbanana:

maybe I can understand a misinterpretation of your first sentence?? but the second removes any doubt of what you meant :deadbanana:

You can tell after 2015 the gp slowly started buying music like that. The way how artists with big fanbases and years in the industry make the list multiple times. :rip:

Why is Bruno not listed for 2024? Literally had the 3 biggest singles this year

None of them have even reach #1 in Billboard. Autoplay only extends in Spotify
