Tragedy. If we had better security to ensure people actually pay to ride the subway, instead of steal from the city and taxpayers, this would have been avoided. I'm certain one - or both - of those involved did not pay their fare.

Add a 0 onto that 2 and that's how many of them you'll see on a daily basis using the public transportation systems in Los Angeles and San Francisco lol

Liberal "but actually" is why you lost the election and the culture war. Sebastian Zapata of Guatemala burned a young woman alive, and instantly you're deflecting instead of showing empathy.

I will be looking the other way when the Trump administration starts the mass deportations. I have not had one pleasant interaction with an illegal immigrant living in Chicago, and they've been nothing but detrimental to the well being of my city.

crime is lower than its ever been.  the media just makes it seem theres alot of crime by reporting every single thing that happens in a city with 8.2 million +

Nothing in the news article linked in that tweet you quoted indicates he entered the U.S illegally, in fact no news outlet has specified his status so far from a quick search. Very distasteful though that your only takeaway from this horrific ordeal is a xenophobic remark.

Now. Why did he set her on fire? :rip: That is completely fuked up. May she rest in peace

Last week I booked a flight to NYC for next year and now this news are appearing and I find it so shocking and devastating.

Literally the ****? And apparently he was drunk and recorded a video of him on the subway saying he didn't do anything wrong and he only wants to live life.

Does anyone know if the lady was homeless or something?

Yeah go feel bad for the demon who set a woman on fire just because his citizen status is being discussed.

"The suspect was identified as Sebastian Zapeta-Calil by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesperson Jeff Carter, who said Zapeta-Calil is a 33-year-old Guatemalan who entered the U.S. illegally and was deported in June 2018 but later made it back into the country. It is not known when and where he reached the U.S. illegally again, according to Carter."

Apparently, it's xenophobic to say that a crime committed by an illegal immigrant wouldn't have been committed if he was correctly deported and denied re-9entry.

They can't even ID the victim because any identification was likely charred.

That video is absolutely terrifying... not a single person cared about that woman dying in front of them. Genuinely frustrating and saddening.

I used to dream of moving to NYC, but I've completely lost that desire in recent years

Same. I went years ago and loved it. I went not long ago and won't be back for a very long time, the crime is terrible and it's just not safe to even go to Times Square or Central Park. Things are bad.

I hope he suffers in jail

You yourself implied that all illegal immigrants are like this. Can't tell if you're acting dense, or if you can't understand how bigoted you sound.

If only someone could've stopped him

Stop them? Liberals and conservatives have come to a consensus that homelessness should be criminalized. This is the natural result of villifying the unhoused for existing in public spaces due to having simply nowhere else to go.

The text you've literally quoted says the bold is exactly what happened.

People should be aware that the lady was likely homeless and people being tricked into making this a public safety hysteria that only further marginalizes as unstable is why things like this happen in the first place.

whether they are both homeless or both have a place to live is kind of besides my point. many people including life-long new yorkers like myself are over feeling unsafe while stuck in tunnels with people having mental episodes. there were several reported violent incidents on the subway within the last few days alone. its not 'hysteria', people are rightly fearful for their safety in a vulnerable environment

This is exactly why America needs Medicare For All and to de-commodify housing, as these incidents would simply not happen if we had such progressive policy. :michael:

I thought killing the homeless was supposed to be justified, especially if they have drugs like fentanyl in their system. Not sure why there's all this outrage when y'all were celebrating the exoneration of Vigilante King Daniel Penny, homeless exterminator extraordinaire.

Is this… not the victory over wokeness yall were expecting?

She was sleeping... it wasn't like she was terrorizing the subway, threatening violence again the passengers or something.
