P.O.P Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago In case you don't know — as Americans clearly don't — Angelina Jolie's new "effort", Maria, is out (wait for it) direct-to-streaming on Netflix on December 11th. As expected, Jolie adds another mega flop to her catalog. The movie is nowhere to be seen on Netflix's Most Watched Top 10 in the USA, giving "OUT – OUT" a whole new meaning. Why do you think nothing this woman has to offer sticks with the general public? Why do you think she has, by far, the floppiest and weakest filmography among her peers? How will ATRL's resident home-wreckers preservation committee convince themselves she is still a hot commodity in Hollywood when there is clearly nothing going on for her? Please keep the discussion civil. 1 1 9 37

Popular Post suburbannature Posted 12 hours ago Popular Post Posted 12 hours ago It had a qualifying theater run for a few weeks before the Netflix debut and opened on Netflix because the distributor is…Netflix. Let's use our brains. If you expected a Pablo Larrain arthouse biopic to be a blockbuster then that's on you. 7 20
Popular Post Gladiator Posted 12 hours ago Popular Post Posted 12 hours ago I don't think the general public is interested in a biopic about an opera singer they likely never heard of. 17
BionicWooHoo Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I mean she looks beautiful in the trailer but it looks wayyyyy too Oscar baity and lowkey kind of boring and depressing for the holiday season. Plus most of middle America has not heard of Maria Callas lbr.
Daddy Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Stunning to look at but most of the time so boring, leaving me cold. Like all of his movies. Angelina will always be a stunning beauty tho 2 1

Truth Teller Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Don't think there's much of a market for a Maria Callas biopic in the US, especially Netflix. It's doing really well here (Greece). We're one of the first markets where they released it widely (because, well, they knew we were more likely to care about Callas) and it's done 90k tickets in 2 weeks and spent both weeks at #2 on the box office. That's a major overperformance for a movie of this sort. I think it might also do well in the rest of Europe 7 1

Capris Groove Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Genuinely, opera is a dying art form in the USA. Ballet really outsold. 3
Hector Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago What an embarrassing thread. https://variety.com/h/most-watched-streaming-originals-movies-tv-shows/ The film is at #4 on Variety's Streaming Original Films chart with 185.5 million minutes watched (which divided by the film's runtime of 124 minutes translates to 1,495,967 views). Does that sound like a flop for an arthouse biopic?! 8

Quote See the most-watched streaming originals The list is clearly for streaming-only movies, as Maria embarrassingly is one of them, and among that small group, it came in at #4? How is that supposed to help your argument? 2 1
Evans Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I'm sure Angelina is so worried that her arthouse, multi-nominated biopic, directed by a Chilean, about a Greek legend who sang opera, is flopping on Netflix… USA 5
