I don't even get this argument either. I see a sh*t ton of anti-Israel content on X, Reddit and IG.

Why is Tiktok the only problem? Why are we not asking ourselves these questions instead of forming narratives to support our own beliefs?

Because their algorithm's not run by the U.S. and the difference in volume and numbers in contrast. The tweets below are from a Zionist to make the opposite point, but the charts have been floating around a while.

Okay, but brainrot apps still exist. Insta Reels, YouTube Shorts, you name it.

This isn't like abolishing mining. It's like closing one specific mine because the miners keep saying mean things about the governor.

I agree, but I'd rather see the biggest and most effective one gone even if we can't get the rest out.

And it actually is exactly like banning mining because mining isn't the only thing that hurts the environment. There's still tons of other industries that harm the environment, but at least getting rid of a big one like fracking would help.

@Relampago. Why is AIPAC and the ADL bothering to lobby senators to get rid of TikTok and not the other social media sites that you mentioned?

Why else would they do that?

Is really weird how all those social media platforms are pandering towards Trump suddenly.

It's not surprising

it's scarier that the new Gen is taking all of its news from this app

now the app will push the republicans' propaganda, like how rightwing leaders are doing in other parts of the world

first Twitter, Meta then joined the team, now TikTok..

leftists....wyd

But we're not getting rid of an industry, we're getting rid of a specific company. The "brainrot industry" still exists. Hell, if Congress had its way, TikTok itself would still exist, but be owned by Zuckerberg or whatever.

So then anti-Zionist propaganda is okay as long as it's US made?

And if this is the case… why is our zionist loving government now fighting so hard to bring it back suddenly?

I'm really not trying to be intentionally obtuse or a tin-foil conspirator but this is just not adding up at all to me. I don't trust anything about it.

Those history books you read in school, yes, you're living through the very early stages of Oligarchy in real time.

Not Gen-Z saying 'thank you' to the fascist orange clown when he wanted to ban the App in the first place :deadbanana4: This World is f***ing done, I swear.

@Vermillion This video largely does go over the timeline of why banning TikTok came back up as an issue of concern In 2023.

(I never heard before the Nikki Haley quote of "for every 30 minutes a user spends on TikTok, they become 17% more antisemitic" lfgnbkjfgn)

A speed-run of the dates and timeline cited below:

  • August 2020 - Trump signs EO ordering ByteDance to divest from TT in 45 days citing natural security concerns
  • October 2020 - Federal judge grants ByteDance's preliminary injunction delaying Trump's EO from taking effect
  • November 2020 - Joe Biden defeats Donald Trump in the presidential election
  • --
  • January 2021 - Joe Biden takes office
  • June 2021 - Joe Biden signs EO effectively undoing Trump's original EO ordering ByteDance to divest from TikTok
  • ---
  • October 2023 - 10/07 and Israel invasion into Gaza occurs
  • November 2023 - Audio is leaked of ADL head saying Israel has an optics problem on TikTok and something needs to be done to address it
  • November 2023 - Republican candidates at the Trump-free primary debate call for banning TikTok, citing false study by a Zionist tech executive claiming TikTok fuels antisemitism in the US
  • December 2023 - 40+ tech executives send letter to the CEO of TikTok over alleged antisemitism on the platform and the popularity of pro-Palestinian videos
  • ---
  • March 2024 - Rep. Mike Gallagher (R) (WI-8) introduces legislation H.R. 7521 claiming ByteDance poses a security risk to American national security. This legislation is written with the help of Jacob Helberg, a self-identified Zionist and consultant for the Peter Thiel-owned defense contractor Palantir.
  • March 2024 - Jewish Federations of North America endorse H.R. 7521, calling for its passing, claiming TikTok proliferates antisemitism as a platform
  • March 2024 - H.R. 7521 is passed in the House with bipartisan support (Yes - 155 D, 197 R, No - 50 D, 15 R).
  • April 2024 - Senate passes their version of H.R. 7521 and the bill is signed into law the next day by Joe Biden.
  • April 2024 - Rep. Mike Gallagher resigns from the House as a representative.
  • May 2024 - Rep. Mike Gallagher announces he will be the new executive Head of Defense for weapons contractor Palantir.
  • May 2024 - Sen. Mitt Romney at a forum with the McCain Institute featuring Sec. of State Anthony Blinken attributes the fast pace passing of the bill to force ByteDance to divest from TikTok to the "overwhelming amount of pro-Palestinian videos on the platform" and why the idea to ban it was so popular in Congress.

We're basically arguing semantics now, though by adjusting our scope of what we're talking about.

I don't think that we should just toss our arms up and say "well Meta apps still exist!" when we seem to be in agreement that it's not exactly great for society. It's the most powerful brain rot content app, nonetheless.

Would you not at least want to close 10 of the biggest fracking mines than close 0?

Not to mention, I was annoyed with Tiktok since its inception, but now that the US government has their sticky fingers involved, I can only imagine what they'll cook up and come back with once the deal finally fully goes through.

Like I said earlier, when Republicans and Democrats can hold hands and fight together on an issue, that immediately starts ringing alarms for me. Especially when it's in stark contrast to what they felt in the not so distant past.

@Communion has definitely provided the best synopsis of this ongoing issue I’ve seen in this thread, but I’m also with @Relampago. and share a lot of continuing confusion regarding the actions of surrounding this ban.

And they did hold hands... to ban TikTo, or at least force its sale. By supporting this ban, you're on Congress's side. :rip:

@Communion Putting this in my notes to not go back through the clip later and with Invision this thread will be deleted at some point.

Genuinely appreciate your time with this.
