I came in to say this. It's funny that every artist tends to say a song of theirs "went #1" when it hasn't

Went #1 on the ATRL charts.

Lol is she really that oppressed as a gay woman!!!?

Can you name how many Top 10 songs there have been by openly out lesbian women this century?

From a quick scan, "Good Luck Babe" is the only Top 10 hit by a lesbian this decade, even if expanding it to women who were openly out at the time of release or post-release. If she's the only gay woman to have a hit song, then....?

She came a long way as a gay Native American queer woman, but she also is a super hypocrite.

Am I missing something? Googled "is Chappell Roan native" & it said "yes, she is native to Missouri"

It's because Chappell is a loud, unapologetic gay woman they can't project their "Regina George" fantasies onto. Like not to be the "friend that's too woke" but I'm convinced that's some of y'alls problem with her bc this video is so inoffensive yet everyone is MADDDD:dies:

There is something deeply worrying how we're in an era of rising conservatism and reactionary "tradcath" culture and people are inexplicably angry all the time over an eccentric lesbian in her 20s while adoring the rest of the slate of commercially successfully pop girls - who I do adore! - who are largely serving a type of female sexuality that is hyper-feminine and coquette and appeals to specific traditional ideals of soft female presentation that are more socially acceptable.

Like obviously no one has to force themselves to like anyone's music but it's a shame to see some millennial gay men get their claws out at a lone gay female artist representing and centering queer and drag culture - at a time where those in power in her country view doing drag as akin to being a child molester - just cause they're not fond of some of the aesthetic choices and the references are outside of their own lens and a bit cringey to them.

I would just say it. Don't announce that you will beforehand :toofunny2:

Chappell is looking for a moment like this if she wins

but it won't give quite the same energy because she "warned" the Scammys prior to :toofunny2: Fiona was really about that action and didn't give a damn.

Swifties being MAD on the first page cause she REFUSES to kiss the establishment's ass :heart2: she don't work enough for it cause she don't throw no slumber parties for grammy voters :lmao:

Y'all think every woman with strong opinions is insufferable, it's getting old. The gender essentialism on this site and in pop stan communities in general is what's insufferable.

And I'm not Chappell "stan", but she didn't say anything crazy in the clip. It's better than fake humility lol

"Talent show for the popular kids" rly speaks to her stunted development & juvenile psyche. She's the gay girl equivalent of incel guys that idolize the Joker, she'd probably Carrie the room if she could. Her sense of self hinges on being a downtrodden loser/underdog, it's as if no amount of validation can negate her victim complex

Is it accurate to say you didn't have an in if you attended the Grammys summer camp program? IDK how open or exclusive of a thing that is.

She's right. The Grammys is hardly a merit only based award show. Fiona Apple wasn't even nominated for AOTY and she had by far the most acclaimed album of that year. It's a popularity contest with a few tweaks and always has been.

I haven't heard one misandrist comment from her, so this is just :skull: she doesn't even give radfem energy, this is a crazy comment.

I noticed the person who replied to you seemingly didn't answer this.

Noticed that too. I think some fellow ATRLers just want the quickest post saying incoherent stuff just for positive reactions (love y'all tho).

I'm rooting for Chappell to win Best New Artist because 1, I think she has long term potential and 2, I want our community to thrive in an industry that has kept us away from the spotlight for so long. :clap3:

As someone who LOVES her music, I am so sick of her attitude :deadbanana: She's going to end up as Xtina without the classic hits tho (and won't last nearly as long) :rip:

I really think y'all are tryna exaggerate what she said and understanding the context just to be fake mad and raise your cortisol levels. :deadbanana2:

She only mentioned the controversial thing because she knows every time she speaks people bug tf out and she doesn't even mean for it to happen. She's just too blunt. And we aren't gonna sit here and act like PPC wasn't a ginormous hit lmaooo! I'm not even a Chappell stan but y'all really have a kink for constantly finding sh— wrong with artists when there's no one else to drag.

I can tell that half of y'all didn't actually watch the interview. She said that she didn't have anything written yet for a speech and jokingly said that she didn't"it will probably be something controversial" as a nod to all the recent comments about her. Y'all reading her for answering the questions that the interviewer asked is… something. I'll agree that sometimes she takes it too far but this one isn't like when she was yelling at the paparazzi (either time) or getting mad at billboard doing their job and reporting on what's going on in the world of music.

That interviewer is so irritating.

anyway, Chappel is right and she should say it regardless of how much it bothers atrl.

The song was massive, if you were to ask the GP which song went #1, GLB or most of your faves #1s, everyone would've picked GLB :dies:
