Luigi Mangione couldn't get care from United Healthcare for his spondylolisthesis

Oh my God. Please people STOP with this moot talking point.

In 1993, the most powerful man in the country, the president (Bill Clinton) and his wife Hillary devised a task force to enact universal healthcare for all Americans, for once and for all. It went all the way to the US Congress. It was then opposed so fiercely by Republicans and the health insurance industry (ding ding ding) who threw millions and millions at TV ads, lawsuits, personal attacks on the Clintons, and coverage from Time, CBS News, CNN, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post. This diminished Hillary's popularity so considerably that she was barred from bringing it up again for the rest of Bill's presidency. The following year, the Republican Party captured unified control of Congress for the first time since 1952.

So please tell me what you think random person Luigi Mangione could actually accomplish to champion healthcare reform.

he would have accomplished more than sitting in a jail cell 10, 20, 30 years from now. this is not the first instance of vigilante justice and won't be the last. what he did was shortsighted. he was justifiably angry but people will move on just as they moved on from any sensationalist news story.

People in this thread have even admitted they are just having fun in here. no one is taking it serious. you expected the american public who just  voted for a man who represents nothing but the interests of billionaire elites to take healthcare reform serious?

No he wouldn't have. What he already accomplished -- Blue Cross backpedaling on their stupid anaethesia policy, and a massive conversation and reassessment of American healthcare  -- was more than he would have accomplished 'getting into politics' lmao.

I hope it does cause conversation. but 10 years from now, you'll be living your life, not thinking about this guy except for maybe a throwback, while he'll still be in jail. he threw it all away. a shame. but im happy youre enjoying the memes

The only person policing anything is you sis!

Coming in here all hot and bothered to inform us thatYOU, unlike the rest of us peons, view Luigi as a below average looking privileged white guy, along with imploring us to "go outside and talk to other people".

If you took your own advice you'd realize this story is a lot bigger than his attractiveness, but it's pretty clear that your main source of social activity is an ailing message board.

What did he throw away? a life whose quality is significantly diminished because some CEO needs to answer to shareholders and board members? Please inform yourself of his medical history and how United Healthcare used every trick to delay and deny his care. And you don't have to hope it causes conversation because his actions have already done so.

This isn't just a meme that will forgagatten by the end of the week. He sacrificed himself for the hope of improving the lives of others. I can't think of a more selfless and honorable action than giving up one's life and freedom for victims that didn't have the privilege or the power to FIGHT BACK.

I literally did not open a single article or video about this person and I already know that he's a relatively hot, I'm assuming homosexual, who's a Charli and/or Xila fan and is seen as a martyr instead of a cold-blooded killer:deadbanana2: Am I right?

I will say this and dip out:

I literally do not care about the CEO, could not tell you his name or which toilet he shat on before he died, I just feel sorry for Luigi because he had to go to this length to prove his point and essentially threw his life away in the process. I don't agree with his method, but I agree with his cause and we should be focusing more on what he did and how to prevent these things from happening again (ie. reform) instead of posting pictures of him with dildos, posting photos of him with cum on it, videos of you fingering yourself to him, and fixating on his looks and talking about him as if he's your boyfriend or just trying to make memes of the situation. if that does not apply to you, I'm simply not talking to you

and you don't have to get ghetTO and sassy chiiiiii because I called the whole thing parasocial and the only thing you can hit me with is my post count because I hurt your feelings. the whole thing became absolutely unserious within the first hour of him being arrested much like everything else. like i'm so sorry but i do not give a **** about him streaming brat or him possibly being bisexual :rip: the man needs to help physically and mentally :rip: not people waiting on his onlyfans. if this is mUch BiGgEr than his looks acting like it :michael:

TL;DR version : horny people make my algorithm poo poo

i feel bad the psychopaths in here celebrating a killer are making you flee this thread. but remember that the majority of the sane world both agree healthcare in the US SUCKS and a murderer should not be applauded.

Most Democrats would disagree and would tell you that actually, Obama did the magic touch and fixed everything and the US healthcare is perfect and doesn't need fixing, actually.

They fought tooth and nail to prevent the one person who wanted to actually do something about our garbage healthcare because they wanted to protect Obamacare and Obama's disgusting legacy of failure.

In fact, the Democrats are probably clutching their pearls the most over this because Brian Thompson was a member of the only demographic that matters to them now: billionaire donor class

but I completely agree. normalization of vigilante justice is just going to create more problems :michael: hoping for the best of everyone involved!

ACA was the biggest expansion of the US healthcare system since 1965. it could have been better if the good version didn't fail by one vote, but it has definitely helped a lot of low income Americans.

Sure, but now liberals are convinced it can't be possibly any better than this. The current status quo that drives people mad enough to shoot their wealthy donors in cold blood out on the streets of New York City.

They fight harder against anyone daring to improve the system than they do against the people wanting to make it worse.

He's a turbonormie straight boy but yes, you're on the right track.

Okay but the provision of the ACA that most benefitted poor people is the expansion of Medicaid to all childless adults in poverty (for states who participated).

The issue is that Democrats incorrectly misdiagnose the popular and effective part of the ACA as the online exchange and tax subsidies when it's not what's worked the best. Even the regulatory parts that Democrats like to flaunt as successful ultimately make it so private insurance has to act *less* like private insurance and mimic Medicare's standards, ie: the ending of denials for pre-existing conditions, eliminating cost-sharing for preventive healthcare services, etc.

People don't want ~price transparency~ and ~competition to ensure they get the best deal from the market~.

They largely think it's the government's duty to ensure everyone is covered.

You live in Canada, a country where healthcare is guaranteed as a human right. You don’t have much license to speak down to Americans on how to voice their frustration with a privatized health industry where mass social murder is normalized in the interest of profit. Everything you’re suggesting (e.g., giving speeches and engaging in politics) has been tried; it does not work.

Universal healthcare now has an all time high in approval. This moment might be a footnote in the larger fight to universal healthcare, but it’s still a part of that story.
