Why cannot ATRL afford reliable servers?

I guess even the ATRL server had a meltdown and needed a full hour after hearing how SEREBRO's comeback got botched. :suburban:

It is a problem with the software that is triggering the server issue. As has been stated in HQ in the post quoted at the beginning of this response, we are actively working with the owner to resolve the issue. It's not a simple fix.

All ad income is reinvested back into ATRL for web hosting, maintenance and plugin development (which is seen costs nearly triple over the last two years).

We are frustrated too. The launch of our original content, interviews and sponsored contests has been delayed because of the instability.

Have you guys considered moving to another forum software? I feel like Invision has been a stagnant software company since at least 2016 but it's been years since I followed it more closely. Most forums I was a part of for a long time moved to Xenforo which I think has less of a demand on server resources and databases.

I just checked and there were 1100 members online there vs 800 online here at the moment

I -- That forum (although iconic in legacy) is very quiet nowadays. How tf do they have more users online than here? :bibliahh: Maybe the 500 errors are pushing away our lurkers

That hasn’t been discussed yet but I will bring it up. We moved from VBulletin to Invision bc of similar reasons. Invision is about to release the next upgrade in their software which is really, really awesome. We’ll probably do a beta test on the test server before upgrading.

Initially I pushed for us to move to their cloud software, but bc we get a lot of copyright strikes for things, it wouldn’t be conducive. You only get 3 strikes and you’re kicked off with their cloud system. We wouldn’t last a week.

they should have a patreon tbh, a nice monthly subscription

Let's bring back ATRL+ please, ever since 2017 I've been waiting for it

It's because they don't have as many tech people in the staff as other sites?

I remember previous forum I was in and a friend I have online who was very techy and as soon as the site played up she fixed it immediately and she knew the problem with this site too sadly atrl perm banned her when she tried to explain to them what to do back in 2016 :gaycat7:

But idk maybe atrl is running from a different host and the site is much much bigger

Honestly don't know, it all depends in how much ads do

This website has a lot of traffic but is from the same small base of people

We get visitors which could determine the real value.

It's very subjective to how much they wanna sell it for to what really could make from a business perspective

The owner honestly sounds like he wants nothing to do

The owner is giving anti-capitalist with his disregard of potential revenue a working forum would provide

Isn't the owner waiting for a bidding war between the bases and nationalities?

Reddit and its free hosting has killed forums entirely.  ATRL still being alive at all, let alone at this level of activity and impact with such a small niche is borderline unheard of in the 2020s :suburban:

thank you chronically online homosexuals
