Gaga is a good singer and a decent actress, let's start there. But I don't think she has the vocal to pull off Defying Gravity and No Good Deed in Act II. These songs require range and vocal stamina. Most of the notes are sustained and OPEN. Gaga sings with a more nasal approach and doesn't seem to have the vocal stamina to sustain long high notes. 

Cynthia was perfect as Elphaba. She did not only deliver vocally but her acting performance was also impeccable. At the end of the day, I think Elphaba went to the right actress.

Cynthia is 1 year younger than Gaga.

 

It's an obvious choice and I absolutely think she could have pulled it off vocally (Sound of Music tribute) but I don't know if she could have disappeared into the role or it just would have been Lady Gaga painted green.

Hmm, her sound of music tribute heavily used head voice and the belted notes barely went above D5 (and it didn't sound open).

 

Gaga is a skilled singer but Elphaba's vocals require a higher level of vocal skills that unfortunately, Gaga doesn't possess and that's okay.

It's irrelevant because the director changed and so did the project. I like how they are throwing this out there now and not when the movie was still in development to give her some press though. lol

this thread is such a kii (the random jenette mccurdy lashing) but after seeing Wicked twice, I cannot imagine anyone but Cynthia playing Elphie. She's just perfect.

Despite Ariana herself being an excellent vocalist, the difference between her and Cynthia was clear, with Ariana having to resort to her horrid enunciation (in some parts) to keep up.

 

Not sure how Gaga would have pulled off Elphaba tbh

Thank God she didn't get it, I don't think her vocal range and style can pull this off, also it's time for her to get a real acting role, no weird accent, no singing, just pure acting, she has improved a lot and now it's the time to rebrand her acting career.

That's not what this means. Every big movie has "ideas" of who may play what character, but those ideas don't always come to fruition. That does not mean the people originally floated "almost landed the role". It's like how people constantly say Beyonce was the pick for A Star is Born when she wasn't. Different directors, different movies, different ideas.

 

Plus, I don't see how Gaga would've fit that role, anyways. I think Cynthia was a better choice.

Shawn is not comfortable enough with himself to do any role well in this movie and express himself through dance well. Gaga while a good actor to me doesn't fit Glinda. Ariana was right
