Other than the Recording Academy constantly failing to get with the times in rock and Chris Brown's continued relevance (why?!?!), I'm actually quite satisfied with both sets of winners.

Who would have thought we'd overlap the most in rap?

Thank you @supaspazfor setting this up!!! It was fun.

Real Grammys for everything but the rock trio, R&B album, and producer.

Tough year for her, but she did sweep the general field with HTE. Poor Sabrina is still ATRL Grammy-less…

A Mockery of Excellence: The Overblown Recognition of Angel of My Dreams

When the dust of the 2025 ATRL Grammys settled, we were left not with a celebration of artistry, but with a glaring symbol of mediocrity draped in unwarranted adoration: Angel of My Dreams. Jade's overproduced, soulless anthem somehow emerged triumphant in the Record of the Year and Pop Solo Performance categories, and it's hard to imagine a decision that felt more insulting to genuine music lovers. This win doesn't just tarnish the integrity of the awards—it's an affront to what music should stand for: depth, authenticity, and artistry.

spacer.png

First, let's dissect the hollow mess that is Angel of My Dreams. It's not a song; it's a commercialized algorithm, constructed from the soulless pieces of pop music tropes that have long overstayed their welcome. Its overly polished production feels like the auditory equivalent of cheap glitter—eye-catching at first glance but devoid of any real substance. The lyrics, dripping in generic platitudes about love and longing, lack any semblance of originality. The hook, which sounds like it was recycled from a TikTok trend gone stale, is less a testament to Jade's artistry and more a symptom of pop culture's short attention span.

spacer.png

And Jade's performance? Let's not confuse breathy vocals and calculated dramatics with genuine talent. Her delivery is as uninspired as the song itself, a robotic rendition that prioritizes aesthetic appeal over emotional resonance. The fact that this is what the ATRL Grammy committee deemed worthy of recognition in a year brimming with true masterpieces is baffling. How did we go from honoring groundbreaking performances to rewarding the lowest common denominator?

spacer.png

The real tragedy of Angel of My Dreams winning these awards isn't just its mediocrity—it's the artists it overshadowed. Truly innovative records like [insert examples of more deserving songs] brought new perspectives, raw emotion, and undeniable artistry to the table, only to be snubbed in favor of Jade's saccharine, mass-marketed anthem. These artists, who dared to take risks and push boundaries, are the ones who should have been celebrated. Instead, their contributions were overshadowed by the industry's obsession with shallow, viral-friendly hits.

spacer.png

The ATRL Grammys' decision to crown Angel of My Dreams as Record of the Year and Pop Solo Performance reflects a disturbing trend in the music industry. Instead of rewarding risk-taking and creativity, we're celebrating formulaic pop songs engineered for streams and chart success. This isn't just a bad decision—it's a betrayal of what the Grammys are supposed to represent. If this is the standard we're setting, then perhaps the Grammys have finally lost their relevance.

spacer.png

Jade's wins are not a victory for music; they're a symptom of an industry that values profitability over artistry. As Angel of My Dreams fades into irrelevance (as all hollow pop songs inevitably do), we'll be left wondering how we let it claim such a prestigious honor. For the sake of music's future, let this be a wake-up call: it's time to demand better.

It was really fun to read all your comments and the work you put into.

Glad about Charli getting her flowers. Shocked about JADE winning in two categories. The song is cute but that's it:deadbanana2:

ETERNAL SUNSHINE BY ARIANA GRANDE!!!!

ARIANA: Wow, thank you so much, ATRL! I am completely shocked and humbled by this honor. I definitely thought this was Charli's year. I absolutely loved Brat. I'm such a fan, Charli! I'm glad you all enjoyed this album because it's the last music you'll be getting from me for a while. Count on it. I'm an Oscar-nominated actress now! If you're in the Academy, don't forget to vote for me for Best Supporting Actress. Thank you!
