tbh i didn't expect general field nominations but WCBF not getting pop solo is crazy work…

 

but also it's not that crazy since this year was like the most competitive year in a long while and also there's the alphabet thing, like I forgot how they call it but basically the submissions are ordered alphabetically so obviously WCBF will be at the bottom of the submission list

It should've been at least nominated for best MV or pop Solo. WCBF isn't worse than Bodyguard or BOF quality wise

her "time has passed" yet she just scored 2 solo #1 singles, a multi-week platinum #1 album, is about to star in a blockbuster movie musical, and earned her sixth consecutive "pop vocal album" nomination (despite ATRL saying she was over for the last year).

The album was good quality but kinda came and went so I can see why she was snubbed in favor of pop girls making a splash later in the year

The snub was WCBF not being up for Best Pop Vocal Performance. A travesty

 

I didn't expect her to be in the general field. The big 3 categories need to be a mix of genres and Sabrina, Chappel, Charli and Taylor were obviously going to take up the pop space. Ariana isn't the new girl on the block like the first two, she doesn't have Charli's cult-turned-mainstream arc and she's not on the ubiquitous commercial level of Taylor so that was a no-brainer. Lowkey her fault for always having extremely short and uneventful eras, but her tendency to lay low is what has given her absolutely consistent success for 7 eras, which is difficult to get, not everybody has that.

Honestly, I didn't mind Ariana getting snubbed in the General Field, even though there were at least a couple AOTY nominees I don't think deserve to be there. Meanwhile, the ROTY and SOTY line-ups were super stacked, even among my personal snubs (Dua Lipa's "Houdini", Doja Cat's "Agora Hills", Troye Sivan's "One Of Your Girls", Tommy Richman's "MILLION DOLLAR BABY", Olivia Rodrigo's "obsessed", not to mention the ROTY misses for "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" and "Die With A Smile"). Don't get me wrong, I do like "we can't be friends (wait for your love)". But it never clicked with me as much as I wanted to. I blame the "Dancing On My Own" similarities and Max Martin sadly losing his touch.

 

That being said, the music video for "we can't be friends (wait for your love)" is absolutely phenomenal, and seeing it snubbed over Eminem's "Houdini" is nothing short of a travesty.
