Conspiracy theorists are hard to deal but here it really doesn't work because if nominations/awards are up for sale, then why is it that only Beyoncé is getting these large amounts? Surely there must be far more desperate artists than Beyoncé, a woman who has barely touched her project since release, who hasn't so much as put out one real video nor staged a performance.

It's also just so amazing that Linda Martell is nominated now. This is part of what the project aimed to do: shine light on history and into the future.

 

If you don't know, Linda Martell was one of the first women in country. She had some impressive "firsts" such as being the first Black woman to play the Grand Ole Opry. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean she was treated well. She was forced onto a label called, of all things, PLANTATION RECORDS and her debut country album was called "Color Me Country". She voiced her concerns over racism and over her label's name and eventually left the label to recored other songs, but was sued by her former label and ultimately blacklisted from the industry. Despite her success she was taunted and called racist names and never given the respect that a white artist would have gotten.

 

SO it's really amazing to see that this year she has attained both her first Hot 100 hit AND her first Grammy nomination.
