LittleStarmen Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Literally being probable the coolest president ever 5 4
WildAmerican Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Biden won GA, AZ and NV too. Different time. Different coalition of voters in a less polarized country.
Richie Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Charismatic, good at interviews and speeches. And also the centrists and the not-far right were more open minded to certain issues back in the day. 5
Popular Post Doctor Dick Posted November 7 Popular Post Posted November 7 (edited) He had a wow-effect to his name. He wowed with his speeches (still one of the best speakers in US history), being relatively young and handsome, well-mannered and, on top of it all, was the first President to use the entertainment industry in his campaign. It was super original for him to do all these talk shows and SNL. He had a coolness to him and when he was seen playing basketball or be humorous it just did the job. Hands down one of the most likeable guys in Politics and one of the most likeable politicians in history. Edited November 7 by Doctor Dick 14 2
Vespertine Posted November 7 Posted November 7 There's a lot I don't like about his presidency (and he did a lot to push us further into our corporate centrist hellscape + surveillance state that we now cannot escape from)… but he was an incredible candidate without any national baggage, and he oozed charisma. His 08 campaign did so much right. Democrats will keep losing unless they completely change their platform and promote FRESH faces. Bush was also wildly unpopular by the end of his second term as he led us into a horrible recession. 13 1
John Slayne Posted November 7 Posted November 7 2008 recession, everyone sick of Bush after 8 years, Obama had actual charisma and society was less polarized and less conservative 1
Marianah Adkins Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Bill Clinton was also getting votes from the South nnnn OT: Obama had a strong voting coalition composed of minorities, college educated voters, working class voters and liberals. This time for Kamala, only the college educated voters and liberals voted for her 10

He famously and iconically played the saxophone on a late night tv show. So that's not actually right. 1
Donquizote Posted November 7 Posted November 7 He's a man and people were tired of Bush/Rep at that time.
Malkuth Posted November 7 Posted November 7 It was before the SJW/woke movement. I actually think Republicans would've never won another Presidential election ever again if it weren't for that. 1 1 3
shimind Posted November 7 Posted November 7 If Obama had to face someone like Trump back then he would have lost too. 2 3

What exactly is the SJW /woke moment? people demanding their human rights is a problem now? 1 11
BOOMBAYAH Posted November 7 Posted November 7 People talk about charisma, but for some reason, they never consider the context under which Obama was running: eight years of a conservative Bush administration, the financial crash, and chaos in the Middle East. In many ways, 2008 was a reverse of 2024. He was charismatic and looked like something different, but the stars also aligned for him. 6 2
Onyxmage Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Because Millennials weren't brainwashed with social media like Gen z and most of MAGA is. People dont seem to understand the evil forces that are trying to destroy the US from the outside, between Russian and Chinese bots, people like Elon Musk and Robert Thiel this country is as the kids say "cooked." 4 3
Rotunda Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Timing is everything. He was right for the moment when everything had basically gone wrong under Bush. 2
Jotham Posted November 7 Posted November 7 He was charismatic and the country was so eager for change after eight years of Bush. The Hope poster is probably one of the most iconic images of a presidential campaign ever. 1
