So, gays? What are we doing now?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

So a lot of us live in countries where the majority would likely vote conservative in next election. So what are we saying gays? I've been told that it's only gay marriage in the U.S that could really be a threat. Not too bad right?

Do we just wait & see how bad things would get? Maybe things won't turn out as bad as the fear-mongerers suggest. It's not like Gilead would be likely in our lifetimes (another thing I've been told, mind you!)

Do we all just try to save our last dime, google the most LGBT-friendly country & mass immigrate there (if we can even qualify for a visa in the first place)? Or perhaps the easiest way to get into said country is if things get worse enough we can actually qualify to seek asylum!

Do we try the "absurd" & "preposterous" Floptropica route? Can some gay tech billionaires just buy some islands somewhere & let Russia or NK nuke us if we even just so try to do our own thing (or hack into our electricity grid) for all we care? And of course sustain the population of an LGBT country via surrogacy & sperm donation (gays & lesbians would be the best of friends I'm sure) or...hmm..I dunno..bisexual people?

Will OP just get downvoted to the pits followed by massive dead banana & disapproving gif qoutes? What exactly is our game plan here? Comment below!

Not me, Lula will probably win in 2026 + LGBTQ-rights are guaranteed by our constitution and by the judiciary system

We'll be fine, I just don't think most people are clamouring for gay marriage to be repealed, never mind any other more fundamental gay rights.

The vast majority of right wing ire towards the LGBTQ community is directed at trans people unfortunately, not gays.

Yeah and Trump was running anti TRANS ads towards the end there too. I live in FL and in the last few years it's gotten a lot redder obviously, but I haven't faced any discrimination to be honest. There is a feeling of discomfort and always keeping an eye out, not being too touchy with my partner in public, ect. I would love to move but we have to wait a few years until we can relocate (to Washington state). We just need to keep fighting for our rights, protest when appropriate and come together.

While most of the hate is towards Trans folks for the moment, they will NOT make the distinction when it comes to most of the wild laws they are going to pass. To many conservatives we are all the same to them so while we are being tolerated now, don't count on that 4-8 years from now.

We FIGHT. Protest. Make art. Speak up. Demand better. There is a generation of young gay kids who needs us to be here for them.

I will not hide. Hiding is not an option. It only gives the homophobes more ammunition. People need to see that we are also part of society. That we are normal and that their hatred is unfounded.

We have to fight!

THIS. I'm genuinely terrified and have been crying off and on all morning. I start LGBT group therapy tomorrow though and I'm hoping I make some friends out of it and that we stand together

I just don't see it sorry. Gay people are too integrated into western society at this point. The backlash against trans people is only because a lot of people see it as a fairly "new" mainstream identity, in the same way people viewed gays 30/40 years ago.

To be clear, I wouldn't be surprised if the US overturned gay marriage because it's only held up by a flimsy legal precedent. I don't think them doing so would have any bearing on other countries though, in the same way other nations weren't clamouring to outlaw abortion after the US overturned Roe v Wade.

Isn't it the different pronouns that make them lose their minds and the young people wanting to change their gender? That is what all the outrage has been about not sexy gay guys.

I live in Hungary where Viktor Orban is the Prime Minister. Back then when Trump was on power he sent millions of dollars to support Orban which he used to boost propaganda via tv, radio, billboards and socials. In smaller villages where people are dying from hunger from that money he offered 5 kgs of potato or 1000 HUF (~3 dollars) if they vote for him, all thanks to Trump and we saw the outcome: 2/3 win so the opposition is useless in the parliament. Today when Trump was elected Orban said that they have big plans with Trump which is connected to the European Union. You may think that "What could a country with 9 million people do in the EU?". Well, Orban formed a new party in the EU which is the third biggest party there where he's the leader with Meloni. This will effect not just you, Americans but the whole European Union.

That's... not the point. Also wtf @ the bolded lol.

They will target one group and then come for the next. We see them doing it with two groups presently: women and trans people. It's a political power play to establish control and take-away rights.

You said we will be okay and my response is we wont. Unless you dont consider trans people part of the LGBT community.
