naval23 Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Boom Boom Pow - a 12 week #1 that prevented "Poker Face" from having a 9 week run at #1... Just over 400M+ streams and less than 200k daily streams

If you're creating an 80s playlist and you want a Cyndi song, you have two real options. If you want a Madonna song, you have 15 options. Artists with just a few hits, albeit a few truly iconic hits, typically have incredibly high streams for one or two songs that are better than what their peers of the time managed for their top hits. 1 hour ago, Joyride said: this I find quite interesting as well. her videos are very well known, referenced, songs are timeless and iconic but her audience doesn't seem to like YouTube. I'd like to know where her main streaming points come from. we need a little madonner to explain this. Madonna's label didn't regularly upload to YouTube. She didn't have a true VEVO page due to her contract with Warner and most of her older videos that were uploaded got deleted. 43 minutes ago, BlahBlahBlah said: Britney's Spotify page surprised me, Baby One More Time, Oops, Womanizer, Gimmie More, etc. all are like floating around 600M-800M streams. It looks like only Toxic has 1B from her discography That's actually really good for a female artist who broke through before the 2000s. 1

Fair point, when I listen to Madonna it's usually for a good few hours where as with Cyndi I dip in and out quite quickly

The geepee only has one song to go to for the nostalgic one hit wonder artist. But artists with hit after hit after hit get stretched out and take much longer to get a billion streams. That's why queens Madonna and Beyonce suffer because they just have too much great discography to listen to. 1

loveisdead9582 Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Most of the ones pre streaming era tbh. There are some exceptions of course but a majority of the big hits from the 60's-2000's haven't crossed that line. I'm also not sure if streaming platforms have combined all the streams from songs by the same artist that are on multiple albums (like greatest hits albums, etc).

They performed well in their initial weeks but had almost no longevity, commercially. In Beyoncé's case, "Cuff It" was eons bigger (and still more remembered) than "BMS" despite peaking lower on the Hot 100. "TIA" was a political meme that hit #1 during an crucial time. "Rich Men", again, became a political meme of sorts and was pushed to #1 by Right-Wing Republicans after it went viral at a MAGA rally, only for the singer to come out weeks later and denounce that it was a song for them or that he was a Republican. They dropped it right after that, including Country Radio. Edited November 2 by GoodGuyGoneGhetto 1

Either way, they're all timeless and have the sales, recurrent airplay and/or cultural impact to prove it. 2
Gabe² Posted November 3 Posted November 3 5 hours ago, laqqinq said: This is pretty much a smash hit, I guess. It was one of the biggest hits from Argentina in 2021/22 and became one of the biggest hits of both artists' careers. It just crossed 800M on Spotify a few days ago. The song will be 3 years old in April 2025. It wasn't really a major hit in North America or much within the Anglo Latin music-consumption world, so maybe that stopped it from being even bigger. It was huge in Argentina, its neighboring countries, South/Latin America, and Central America territories. Has 1B+ streams on YouTube Music, so it did better there. There's only like 10 female songs from Latino artists that reached 1 billion on Spotify 800m is pretty damn good 1

True, but you typically have to change genres or sex to see that. It is unfortunately rare to see that, especially for female artists.
