Madonna ... even if Taylor one day surpasses her stats she will never surpass her influence

Both have had a generational impact in different ways, but Taylor will likely surpass Madonna and be remembered more because of how easily accessible her music is nowadays. Her music is ubiquitously everywhere. She's also a smart business woman. She'll figure out how to keep her brand going.

In therm of success I can see Taylor surpassing Madonna but in therms of impact Madonna is untouchable and will always be remembered as the most legendary pop star ever for sure

In terms of sheer commercial success, it is inevitable that Taylor will surpass Madonna. She's already close and still the biggest artist on Earth. Even with an inevitable slow burn of her commercial viability, she is 100% becoming the best selling female artist of all time in the next few years. 

 

In terms of impact, while I do think ATRL vastly underrate and overlook Taylor's impact and influence for whatever reason, nobody compares to Madonna on that front. Madonna will always remain the first popstar and she established the rules that have never been broken by any other popstars. She is the OG.

The answer is Madonna.

 

Taylor clearly has an unbelievable amount of success and her fanbase is huge and super dedicated, but there is nothing in her career beyond her popularity that could ever compare to Madonna as the pop artist, icon and legend that she is.
