Ya those songs are hard for a lot of ppl to really get into, so I understand why sweetener maybe considered her worst album. I think though it's important that she made them, just because it shows how willingly she could get out of her comfort zone. I like rep tbh, but I don't know why it was shut out completely

Exactly, I have a lot of respect for Ariana wanting to explore her sound and I understand why the Grammy voters would want to reward that, but some of the music just wasn't for me :bird:

I really do enjoy the more conventional tracks on the album (GIAW, everytime, breathin, NTLTC, better off, and goodnight n go), but I think my enjoyment of the album, as an aggregate, is lower than my enjoyment of reputation because I don't really... get some of the tracks.

Oh taste bc I love those songs! I've grown to love sweetener, I see it being a double album/sister to TUN, so hard to choose between them! But took a while to really like ALL the tracks on sweetener, bc how experimental it was!

rep is less experimental besides from LWYMMD and maybe end game, but it's still for me a great album, and I do love it a lot! Maybe it's best she didn't win this

Grammy, because her not caring or focusing so much on Grammy achievements gave us folklore imo

I think the last time they were nominated in the same category was in 2019? I hope we get a Tayariana at the Grammys next year!

sweetener has some of the worst songs ever recorded by a pop girl (the light is coming / successful / blazed / borderline). i do think that rep / sweetener are the weakest albums by both girls, but rep does not have anything as bad as the 4 songs i mentioned on sweetener (with the exception of gorgeous)!

For me personally, sweetener aged worse because of those Pharrell tracks… lock him up (he also almost k-worded Dua's Future Nostalgia with the same type of awful beats :biblionana:. Thank god she scrapped all of them)

I mean yeah, Sweetener was kinda Ariana's Butterfly era. it's pretty excellent the whole way thru

Taylor wanted Reputation to be her Unapologetic era but unfortunately looking back the album is suupperrrr frontloaded. it's got great highs (…Ready for It?, End Game, Don't Blame Me, Delicate, So It Goes…) but then the second half is just pretty anodyne. other than Call It What You Want, those songs really blend together for me :gaycat6: plus, it lacks a bit of the edge I think she was going for. Lover ate it (and 1989 too tbh) up in terms of Taylor's pure pop run in the late 10s :giraffe:

btw I'm not a fan of Pharrell in general but I LOVE his work on Sweetener, idk why y'all all seem to hate it :biblionana: Blazed is one of her all time best album tracks! and REM and Get Well Soon are both simply gorg

right like the pharrell tracks are actually the highlights on the album :rip:

Reputation has some great songs but a lot of childish sounding duds like Gorgeous and This is Why We Can't Have Nice Things just to name a few (they stick out on what is supposed to be a mature and "dark" album); Look What You Made Me Do is still so cringe too :rip:

Sweetener has beautiful melodies and big pop moments like god is a woman and NTLTC; get well soon is truly a career highlight. Had Mac not died and thank u, next not come so soon after it could have had a better chart run but it was a huge step for Ari creatively.

LITERALLY!! I know that for some reason  the forum gays feel like his production "ages poorly" and sometimes I see that on his stuff  for some other ppl, but for his stuff on Miley's Bangerz and Ari's Sweetener… I think it's aged incredibly well and still sounds vibey and beautiful

Sweetener is Ariana's best album. Reputation is, like, Taylor's 9th best. And still reputation is better :deadbanana2:

Sweetener is an album that feels fresh playing it back. The replay value is insane

Finally some love and appreciation for blazed :clap3: I was so confused when I found out everyone seems to hate it  maybe the Pharrell parts can be a little jarring but the rest is pure pop bliss.

Both are important albums that marked important points in both artists' careers.

Reputation, as we all know, was Taylor's return from the ashes like a phoenix after the media frenzy that followed 1989. The album, or/and LWYMMD, was a significant pop culture moment, and was another commercial success (also in the longterm) for Taylor. It wasn't as successful as 1989 (obviously) but was a commercial achievement, considering people thought Taylor wouldn't be able to do anything of that sort after she was declared 'over' and likewise.

Sweetener was an important mark in Ariana's career, setting a new high for her, artistically, critically, and commercially. It cemented her as the 'it' pop girl of the moment, showcased her artistic diversity/experimentation, and was a significant pop culture moment, following the (unfortunate) events of Manchester and her publicized breakup.

I enjoy Reputation more than Sweetener. The more experimental tracks on the latter album are not something I prefer listening to, casually, or like on an everydat basis. But some of the Sweetener tracks and all 3 singles are some of my favorite songs from Ariana's discography. Meanwhile, I enjoy more Reputation tracks, in comparison, but I find it to be one of the weaker albums in Taylor's discography, and has been eventually topped by releases post-Rep (and pre-Rep).

I would say Sweetener aged better, but Reputation is the album I go back to more.

Both amazing and important albums. :heart2:

There's nothing "experimental" about sweetener :rip:

it was just a bad album

I love Ari but sweetener is easily the worst album in her discography while Reputation is in the top half of Taylor's! I'm gonna have to disagree.
