IBeMe Posted October 8 Posted October 8 However, Goldstein briefly shared his thoughts on the disastrous debut of Joker: Folie à Deux while speaking with the Wall Street Journal. Admitting that the film had failed to live up to the box office potential the studio had hoped for – something that is very hard to try and deny – Goldstein noted that he feels the "core male audience" that made the first movie a huge success, struggled to connect with Gaga's take on the ever-popular Harley Quinn. He added, somewhat unnecessarily: "The movie didn't land with audiences the way we wanted it to." https://movieweb.com/lady-gagas-harley-quinn-casting-blamed-joker-folie-deux-failure/ originally posted via Wallstreet Journal's piece on Joker 2 (paywall blocked): https://www.wsj.com/business/media/200-million-joker-sequel-is-a-box-office-bust-9b92a7c0 7 1 6
Popular Post IBeMe Posted October 8 Author Popular Post Posted October 8 (edited) the smear campaign by Toad Phillips is in full force I see He wants everyone to take blame but himself...aka the MAJOR issue of the movie. Gaga is literally the only positive thing about this film based on reviews. He can try but it won't work. You will catch these strays Toad and nothing can stop that from happening. I hope studios NEVER invest in his work without having some control of his script and direction...letting a man like him loose with a 200M$ budget and no oversight was an insane mistake on Warner's part. Popular Post jesus del rey Posted October 8 Popular Post Posted October 8 They gave the Project X and Hangover director extraordinary control over the final edit and now they are trying to blame the actress who was the only good part of the movie? I have to laugh. 11 72 2

jesus del rey Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Did she also cause other DC movies to flop as well? Someone quickly check if she had a cameo in The Flash or the second Aquaman movie 2 5 5

Gesamtkunstwerk Posted October 8 Posted October 8 (edited) I refuse to believe they didn't understand Lady Gaga's audience vs. The Joker's. It's not even the cast, it's that they made it a musical. Sorry, but nobody who liked the first wanted to see that lmfao I think they tired to pull a difference audience than the toxic men that loved the first film, but it backfired, so nobody likes it now Edited October 8 by Gesamtkunstwerk 7
GraceRandolph Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Not Gaga "alienating" the straights when a huge chunk of her scenes were cut. 4
Rush Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Quote "core male audience" Did males even watch this movie aside from little monsters?
GraceRandolph Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Just now, Rush said: Did males even watch this movie aside from little monsters? The audience was 62% male 1

Popular Post Capris Groove Posted October 8 Popular Post Posted October 8 (edited) It's not that a woman was cast it's that Gaga was cast. Of course comic book stans don't want to go see Gaga belt out jazz and Broadway showtunes, like be serious. Edited October 8 by Capris Groove 2 43 1 7
Verandi Posted October 8 Posted October 8 (edited) Ohhhh grab your popcorn this isn't the campaign run we wanted but it's the campaign run we needed. The girls are fighting, Gaga make your next move Edited October 8 by Verandi 11
NextBish90 Posted October 8 Posted October 8 The actors and the acting are actually perfect in the movie. The cinematography and the picture is also brilliant. It's just the lack of Joker story and the musical part upsetting people. 12 1

Navyofbadgals Posted October 8 Posted October 8 I mean there is something to be said about Gaga really just playing a random woman with little connection to the character that was established as Harley in the comics. That is however something that is not unique to JFad; first Joker did the same AND by the looks of it Todd Philips and Joaquin Phoenix were the biggest driving forces creatively. The poor choices that the movie made are almost fully on them 5
P.O.P Posted October 8 Posted October 8 OBVIOUSLY they had to chop a lot of her bits because of how bad it was and her performance ended up ruining this WIDELY PANNED & UNIVERSALLY LOATHED movie. 2 16 20
MistressKay Posted October 8 Posted October 8 No it was all the shitty musicals. Boring plot. And joker looking acting like a weak *****. 2 1
OreGuy Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Ppl went to see Joker just to see Gaga (39%), almost as much as Joaquin (40%). Be serious, Warner. 1 1 1
Domination Posted October 8 Posted October 8 The nice thing about cutting her out of the film is that now trying to blame her for this colossal flop (creatively and commercially) is nonsensical and she's basically immune. 4 1
