sk8erfan Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Such huge catalogue and she keeps on chewing Hero, WBT and AIWFCIY time after time ugh 4
nostalgic Posted October 7 Posted October 7 That was pretty. A little hoarse and pitchy in some areas but the climax made up for it aside from that, she looks incredible
Mitsouko Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Even in her 50s she has the potential to be such a good stage performer if only she let go of the ball gowns and extensions and "good side" nonsense. Imagine Proctor's Theater Mariah all grown up and throwing down like Patti or Gladys 6
Elementary Posted October 7 Posted October 7 She should release a new album full of Vision of Love/WBT/Without You esque songs, even a rerecording duet album would be well received. People are here for Mariah to sing again. The cocktail mini dresses and "sexy" music videos need to stay in the 00s where they belong.
DemDam92 Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Girl pls drop this stupid valentines version of we belong together 1
genio Posted October 7 Posted October 7 She looked and sounded incredible, that was a great performance. 3
allforyou Posted October 7 Posted October 7 She looks so good I thought the performance was great too considering the fact that the majority of it was sung live 2
Capris Groove Posted October 7 Posted October 7 What I don't understand is why it seems like she can't physically move? She walks on stage like an 80 year old, small steps, almost like she's going to fall. And then she stands like a statue. Did she have an injury or something? She's not that old. Not trying to shade I just don't get it.
doonerr Posted October 7 Posted October 7 The fact that she's in a far better place with the youngens than she was ten years ago

During her Grammy performance in 2006, she actually lipped most of the climax and the long note but she had so much energy that she managed to make people believe the whole thing was live (hence why it's one of her most acclaimed performances). Girl she actually sang We Belong Together long note live at the grammys Edited October 7 by Melancholy 1
Cbreezy Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) Enjoyed this! She looked and sounded great. I have a PHD in Mariah's studio wizardry, so there were deffo lipped/punched-in parts throughout. But I a) appreciate the effort and b) appreciate the understanding of the necessity of switching up for "big televised" moments like this. She easily could have just used the exact pre-record from the residency but they deffo made strategic amends to make this standout in its own way. As you can tell, I have zero issue with prerecords. There are often a myriad of reasons (from voice preservation to ensuring a pitch-perfect showing to just the razzle and dazzle / fantasy of it all). My main thing has always been about a) making it believable and b) switching it up/evolving it as time goes on. Mimi and her team do that well. Like others have said, I do wish she would look less stoic while performing. Having lived the Emancipation era in real-time, those performances (even when not note-perfect) are such a cherished capsule in time because sis was working every corner of the stage. The flapping arms, theatrics, and all of that. She fought for the moment that was that era and it always came across as such in the performances. If we're keeping it 100, we know she's probably on meds for different things. So, in a way, she gets a pass. I'd always take a performance like this over her not performing at all. It's a thin line to tote, because I equally do not give artists a pass for phoning it in or crutching on their legacy. But I think Mariah is doing "enough" nowdays for it not to be that (even though there is undeniable room for improvement in the energy department). Edited October 7 by Cbreezy 1
KahnumDash Posted October 7 Posted October 7 she looks the best she looks in years and the vocals are giving everything we needed, even if they are pre-recorded. the elusive chanteuse WINS again! 4
1989 Posted October 8 Posted October 8 I don't mind the lip syncing, her voice has been through a lot and she literally doesn't have anything to prove anymore. What I don't understand is it seems like she's physically unable to move these days, and I don't mean just her performing at the mic stand (WBT fits that type of performance anyway). It's the odd way she walks out onstage (and she's been doing it for a while), and how there is zero movement outside of her arm, not even a slight sway that most of the divas do during a ballad/slow jam. She looks fantastic, though.
CottageHore Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Idk I thought the performance was overall very good vocally, despite the climax being lipped but that's nothing new and at least it's with current vocals. I agree with the stiff comments. She looks geriatric, like she should be in a wheelchair. Maybe if she just ditched the need to be glamorous 24/7 and wore something comfortable she might even be able to do the entire thing live. She's just so tense and uncomfortable and that alone can't be good for her voice and support while singing.
MariahC Posted October 9 Posted October 9 (edited) Crazy how people are still expecting Mariah to sound like she did in 1995! She's 55 freaking years old! Of course her voice has changed. Spare me the lipping accusations, it's been part of her performances since 1997 and You all will just have to deal with it. Just appreciate her for the Legend that she is! Because y'all would've praised any other female singer in their 50s. This only happens to Mariah, people are way too hard on her. This particular performance was great considering the circonstances, and I like the changes she made throughout the song. Edited October 9 by MariahC

She's been the best of the older divas at cementing her legacy in recent years withh MC30, her memoir, anniversary editions, Hall of Fame inductions…so we will be grateful for that. Madonna had a remix album peaking inside the usa top 10 with mostly remixes already available. Then she smashed a tour that ended with an audience of 1.7 million people watching it live, grossing over 225M from arenas only. She also has a current hit song with The Weeknd about to hit 1b on Spotify. All this over the past 2 years. Kylie Minogue has been doing great and all the right moves and even smashing her arena tour in the USA just yesterday.

Y'all were just saying the same thing wishing Madinna would pay tribute to her legacy in the same way.
