I don't think this is enough proof of that, since I can't even tell if it's live or not. She's been too booked this year, and I'm guessing she lips most of the show just to be 'consistent', not because she's losing her voice

She's been losing her voice. Mariah has been my favorite singer for decades and sadly, it's just not the same anymore. It's obviously going to happen. No one can keep a voice like that forever and why I find it sad.

This kind of delusion with a Rihanna avi is sending me a bit

Standing still and sounding like that? It was horrific. No idea what happened to her voice. I doubt it's just age. I guess that she's dealing with the loss of her mother and sister?

No idea but she sounded so bad. Jesus.

the pre-record is so weird because it's meant to sound live and in her current voice but its edited within an inch of its life so it's this strange reverse warholian expedition :suburban:

almost as edited as Mr. Carter's history with Diddy moo.png

Her voice is not what it was in 1995, but it's still leagues above the likes of Rihanna let's be clear on that

i'm going to get downvoted on this but she just disappoints me so much nowadays! the climax would be much more believable if she wasn't stiff as a board. it makes it so evident she's not singing live. compare this with other WBT performances like the 2005 grammy's performance — she was moving her entire body, swinging that hair and MOVING. she's so stiff nowadays and just not into it. yes she will always be a legend but it's sad to see her reduced to a legacy artist, re-performing the same 20+ year old songs and christmas music.

What voice are we talking about? She lipped most of the thing:dies:

Why is everyone so afraid of being downvoted? Call it like it is.

It's funny, this is exactly what I was thinking about. During her Grammy performance in 2006, she actually lipped most of the climax and the long note but she had so much energy that she managed to make people believe the whole thing was live (hence why it's one of her most acclaimed performances).

Name another 55+ year old female artist smashing with new music.

She's been the best of the older divas at cementing her legacy in recent years withh MC30, her memoir, anniversary editions, Hall of Fame inductions…so we will be grateful for that.

The strained climax was a bit unsettling for being pre recorded. Imagine if she were to attempt that live :katie:.

anyway, overall it was great.

I think the only time she did not lip synced her climax was the performance at Oprah in the blue dress, right?

That's her best performance of this song that I know of.

Mariah has given us so many memorable live performances and we know she can sing, so she doesn't have to prove whether she can sing live anymore.

i guess i just wish she put more effort into new music and new projects than constantly living in the old. it doesn't even need to smash. caution was so new and fresh and proved she is still capable of making great music even with the voice she has these days.

I might be wrong but I don't think she ever sang the climax live, maybe some parts of it but never entirely.

EXACTLY. she sold it! you felt her passion during those performances. she's so stoic now. i saw her at the hollywood bowl last year for her christmas show (don't get me wrong — i grew up on her xmas music and its full of amazing memories), and she was just so out of it. almost seemed medicated. looked amazing but just so stiff and no fire.

Oh yes, I'd love new songs from her. Giving Me Life is one of her best songs ever.

When she's inspired, her pen is unmatched :jonny6:

The only thing that annoys me regarding Mariah is her lack of energy. I know she's not 35 anymore but during the Emancipation era she was eating the stage.

After that era she always stands still.

Miss those iconic Get your number/ It's like that performances. :jonny5:

It's been known she hasn't been well for a while. At the start of this year there was barely any passion in her, and now it's gotten a little better, but it's very clear she's still not into it. She's mostly doing it for her legacy, her fans, and that's it, not because she actually wants to do these performances.

Does she even bother to sing live anymore? I'm genuinely curious about the state of her current voice, if there's anything to work with. She shouldn't be lipping as often as she does :doc:

What kind of fan are you? You don't know this by now? :rip:

I don't follow her performances any longer, not for a few years. I'm sick of the lipping but hoping there is some improvement at least :rip:
