Sophie Ellis Bextor eligible for Best New Artist, 23 years after debut

As she has not submitted for Best New Artist more than 3 times, was never nominated for a Grammy and just gained widespread prominence in the US this past eligibility period, the Grammy committee has deemed Sophie eligible for BNA. Her name is officially on the voting ballot. Thoughts?

Let me support the possibility of her winning over Chappell and Sabrina

What the f--- :deadbanana2:

Grammys should change the rules now. With Sabrina, okay she just had a breakthrough so I kinda get it but Sophie Ellis Baxter has been a famous name in Europe since 2001. This is messy. It's like a giant middle finger to Europe.

They really need to change the name to best breakthrough or some **** because the BNA category has become a complete joke (and the Scammys in general but that's a discussion for another day).

well the breakthrough part is just a general guideline, not a rule. it's very subjective because like SNS is now considered Sabrina's breakthrough, but emails i can't send was bigger than the albums of 90% of bna nominees.

so technically anyone who has never been nominated or passed the max number of submissions is eligible.

Yeah, it's a mess because of this. How can you say Sabrina is eligible because SNS is her breakthrough not emails but then say x indie artist who charted at #170 had their breakthrough album. They really need to just say "too bad too sad" for cases like Sabrina cause that logic of breakthrough allows for messy loopholes like this Sophie girl.

Britney should re-submit to best new artist and claim what was rightfully hers!

As a huge fan, this is just ridiculous, just like Sabrina, they do not deserve a nom at all.

At this point why haven't Kate Bush got it when RUTH went viral? :bibliahh:

She needs a Grammy of some sort she's too good.. Take Me Home, Catch You, Get Over You, Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer), Can't Fight This Feeling... all could've been massive hits
